Should I get a 3rd opinion?
Hi everyone, I was excited to find this forum. I haven't had time to read through past posts yet, but thought I'd post my concerns anyway.
I'm 40, have cystocele, rectocele, and uterine prolapse from 2 difficult births, 1st one 3.5 years ago, 2nd only 19 months ago. Two ob/gyn Drs have said that my best option is a hysterectomy leaving ovaries, and repairs for bladder and rectum. I'm booked in for feb 11.... I'm scared!!! I have been wearing a pessary for 6 months now which is really great for everyday life, but is not great for sex life, but it's not great without it either. So I was happy to wear this until I decided what to do. I'm still breast feeding.
I worried about hormonal changes, and I have read a few posts about reduced sex drive... is this only when ovaries are removed?? Our sex life is all but non existent at the moment anyway, I was hoping for a radical change in that department after surgery, is this likely???
Should I get a third opinion, or is 2 opinions enough to go by?? Could there be any alternative to my problem?

Re: Should I get a 3rd opinion?
IMO, you don't need a 3rd opinion.
The life you are living now is not a good one. You have your kids already and your uterus has done a good job for you!
How many more years do you want to use a pessory and have a sex life that is "all but non-existent"?
I haven't had surgery yet, so can't comment on the reduced sex drive - maybe someone else can help you on that one.

I don't think that you need another opinion since both drs said the same thing. I don't know about the sex after surgery yet but there is a thread called Lack of cervix and intimacy down the road. It sounds pretty encouraging! Yahoooo!
