12 days post hysterectomy bleeding

Hello,

I am 12 days post op, I have been doing very well. I have been having the spotting off and on the whole time. The last day or two it has been a little more. Enough to make me a little nervous. Shouldn't it be getting better at this point? I am also having a little pelvic discomfort and some low back ache.

Is this normal? I would appreciate any input! Thanks!

Re: Post op bleeding

Hi there! You are still pretty early in recovery. While spotting is completely normal during your recovery, the amount of spotting can relate to a couple of things. If you have increased your activities your increased spotting could be telling you that you have overdone it on your activities. The aches and pains are normal at this stage as well and can happen with overdoing things. This is when you will need to slow down, put your feet up and relax a little bit. For your aches and pains, you may be able to apply an ice pack to help relieve some of the discomfort.

If you had your cervix removed, it could also be that your cuff stitches are dissolving. This can occur as long as you still have internal stitches which can be anywhere from 6-8 weeks depending upon the type that your doc used.

The rule of thumb is, if you are filling a maxi pad in under an hour or if you have a foul odor to your discharge/spotting a call to your doc is definitely in order. Listen to your body as it will tell you when you are overdoing it. Hang in there!
