Another exam?

I had my first exam in many years on 3/10/06 with symptons of belly growing, heavy periods, spotting between. My only access to info is online(my husband and I drive an 18-wheeler)and symptons pointed to fibroids.
I told my gyno this and,pre-exam,non-surgical and surgical remedies were discussed.
At the beginning of the exam when the dr saw my belly, she actualy backed up and said "Woh!".Apparently,my uterus is the size of a 7-month pregnancy(never had kids, didn't know).
Had a sonagram and the vaginal probe sonagram, too.Couldn't see my ovaries.
The dr said there would be no other option other than vertical incision hysterectomy due to the "mass" being 20cm.
I had this exam done in Minnesota, but any surgeries will take place in New Mexico.
Will I have to go through all these exams again or will the transcripts from the MN dr be enough?

Your doc may want to do his/her own exam but the records from the MN dr should be helpful and maybe you won't have to repeat some of them. Just be sure to sign a medical records release so you can have your docs office request them and your doc can review them before your appt.

Good luck....

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!

Most likely your doctor from "my" neck of the woods (Minnesota) can be in communication with your doc down in "your" neck of the woods.

You may want to consider something less invasive than a hysterectomy for dealing with your fibroid. If it's an option for you, a myonectomy can be performed which would just remove the fibroid and retain your uterus. Even if you have never had children or feel you won't have any, if you can keep your uterus it is something to consider!

If you do get scheduled for surgery, though, please take a moment and update your profile to include your surgery date so that we'll know where you are in your journey.

to you, and once again, !!

Thanks for the replies!

Update:My NM appointment will be Apr 3.I called the dr in MN and will be faxing a release form.

If I'm not going to have children(I'm 37 and married to a man who had a vas over 20 years ago),what use is the uterus?I'm looking forward to my periods being done with.

A 20 cm mass is pretty significant. Hope all goes well and your recovery is speedy.

Thanks,Wendy!

What type of incision did you have? The MN dr indicated from under the ribs all the way down to there due to the size of my uterus.
