LSH: Pregnancy after LSH?

I had my pre-op appt yesterday and thought I asked everything (I had a list), but apparently I left some things off so I need your help! My 1st concern was that my blood pressure (I am only 31 and not overweight, eat fairly well and run often) was 130/89. They said the bottom number was unusually high and 90 was the borderline without concern. They said it was nerves. Well, I checked it today at the supermarket (and I know they aren't always accurate) but it was 122/89 which means its still elevated! I am going to check it tomorrow too, but what if its still high? Will they not do surgery? What can I do besides relax and limit my salk intake between now and then? My 2nd quetion involves pregnancy after a hysterectomy since they are only taking my uterus (leaving cervix). I didn't even ask my dr because I didn't think there was anything to ask, but I started reading where people CAN get pregnant after a partial hysterectomy if the ovaries are still in place. My understanding was that you do still product an egg, but your body absorbs it so it never really "drops". I also read where there is no way for sperm to make it outside of the vagina after the uterus is moved to even meet up with the egg. I thought I had it all figured out and then I continued to read and am confused. My husband told me not to worry because my doctor would have told me that I need to be on BC after this procedure if there was ANY chance of pregnancy. Help! My surgery is in 5 days and I am now rattled!!!!

I have never seen a scientific account of a viable pregnancy after a hysterectomy, partial or total. IF the sperm can make it through the cervix that is left behind (and probably cauterized closed, if your DR is like many these days), and IF the ovary/ies happen to have produced an egg at that particular time and IF that egg happens to somehow magically be able to travel down to where the cervix is to meet up with the sperm, then against overwhelming odds there may technically be a possibility of a tubal pregnancy but obviously it cannot survive.

I would ignore the sensationalized things you read on the Internet on this point... not going to happen.

Regarding the blood pressure... try to relax and not worry. I know it's hard, because you're going into unknown territory, but try not to worry about stuff that hasn't happened yet. If you go in for surgery and your bp is super high, they may elect to postpone the surgery. You could call your DR's office and ask about this. Hopefully, though, the elevated bp is just nerves as they told you.

Totally agree with surferbabe! I asked my doctor about leaving my ovaries and cervix along with being able to retrieve an egg after a few years. She told me that it would be possible but the procedure would be different without my uterus. My husband pops up at that point and asked what were the chances of a tubal pregnancy if they could get eggs later. She laughed and said a miracle to grow back another uterus. Apparently my doctor will be cauterizing (like surferbabe said) the cervix closed if they decide to leave that and tying my tubes to prevent the remotest possibility of a tubal. In most cases, without a uterus your body will recognize this and absorb the egg. This is all according to my doctor though.

I have read reports about ectopic pregnancies happening....though VERY rare. Of course the pregnancy wouldn't be viable and would have to be terminated.

I was originally scheduled for a LSH and my Dr and I went over everything.
