up coming surgery

Hi
I am new to this web site..but not to surgery i have had a supra cervical hysterectomy in 1992 and now have mod cervical dysplasia. My gyno has suggested the removal of what is left of my cervix, family members(my mom) has suggested strongly the removal of everything else due to a friend having died from cancer(ovarian)My consultation appt with my Dr. is scheduled for April 19 and the closer it gets the more nervous I become,I am 39 years old and the thought of horemone replacement is really freakin' me out.
thanks mir
p.s. What is the castle?

The hospital is refered to as the castle on this website. I personally suggest to anyone I have talked to, to have have everything removed at one time. I think dealing with HRT or the problems that go with is or will be much better than having to have a second (or third in your case) to have the rest removed. I think that is just something the doctors do to make more money. I had a TVH done the first time and then 8 months later found out I needed to have the ovaries removed also. I was 30 at the first surgery and just turned 32 and am now 4 weeks BSO post-op. I'm taking Premarin and so far haven't really had any problems.
good luck to you

Hi mir,

I'm awfully sorry that you are facing more surgery, but glad that you found Hyster Sisters.

You might want to visit the Hyster Sisters Cancer Concerns Forum (click here) where you'll find others who are facing some of the same questions and concerns that you are.

The HS Resource Directory (click here) also has some wonderful links to information that you may find helpful - scroll down until you reach the links for cancer.

Is your doctor an oncologist/gynecologist? They are the specialists in female surgeries, and if I were you, I'd want a second opinion from a specialist before making any decisions that can't be reversed.

I wish you the very best as you continue to read and to research all of your options. Please keep us posted.

Hi there,
I personally agree w/ Ang. I am 42, and had a total hyster, ovaries removed because I've heard that most of the time they have to eventually go back and remove everything. They removed my cervix, in which I was glad because who wants to still have periods when they don't have to?
I am also somewhat afraid of HRT, but leaving in the ovaries is scary also. They still cause menstal cramps and problems and there's not a way of detecting ovarian cancer. Yicks!
I also knew that I would be going thru menapause soon. My mom went thru at 42 and it was HORRIBLE. She's now on HRT and I knew that's where I was headed.
Good luck to you in making your decisions.
