Nausea and Heartburn

You can get some over the counter Acid Reducer Pills, that may be your problem. ????
Are you feeling anything else?
Please don't feel like a failure. I have read on the boards where some Princesses don't get off their thrones for over 2 to 3 months or some longer. Our bodies have gone through a major deal. Just like we can't compare ourselves to eachother, don't compare yourself to your DH. I don't know what he had done but I know it was NOT a Hyster.
Hang in there and let us know how you are doing!!
BIG HUGS!!

Nausea and Heartburn

Are you taking pain meds or even regular ibuprfen can cause stomach irritation. Talk to your doc. There is no reason to feel bad if you don't have to!
Take care of yourself. There is only one of YOU!

Nausea and Heartburn

zachdon - I had similar problems for quite a while after my surgery - I ended up with esophogitis - from a HUGE yeast infection - then just my whole inside was a mess - I didn't tolerate the surgery too well and had some complications...

Now I am 5.5 months post and other than a different medical problem - I am doing well... I haven't had to take my stomach meds in quite a few weeks... almost a couple of months... and I use Gaviscon for the start of heartburn - the tums and such didn't do squat and my doc recommended this as a top up to my med I was on...

Give it time - it takes 6-12 months to heal... you are still in the early phases... watch what you eat - see if anything triggers your indigestion - like fat or dairy - or red meat...

I only ate scrambled eggs, chicken noodle soup and drank herbal mint tea (a great help btw) for about the first 3 weeks after my surgery - actually- weeks 2-3 - I didn't eat anything for the first 8 days as I was SOOO nauseous and such - at times it actually was SOO bad it hurt to breath deep...

Have you talked to your GP about this? A bit of heartburn is ok - but getting it too often can lead to some serious complications - so check with your GP and see what he/she says...

Hugs!

Nausea and Heartburn

Week 3 and I have heartburn and insomnia. Sometimes at the same time. Does fruitcake have anything to do with this?

Nausea and Heartburn

While I am not a professional - I would guess that the insomnia is likely hormonally related... and the heartburn is co-incidental... I ended up on a stomach med for quite a while after my accident as I had esphogitis - basically a nasty yeast infection in my eating track... I also think it might have gotten to be GERD - a low fat diet helped a lot... if the fruitcake has a lot of fat- that could trigger it - as well as acidic fruits - try to avoid those if you can and see if it makes a difference... if the heartburn is lasting a while - you need to go and see your doc as the heartburn can cause damage after a while - there are some good meds you can get to help while you heal...

Nausea and Heartburn

Boy oh Boy - this site is a blessing! I could not figure out what was happening to me. I've been struggling with weight issues for a while and had my TAH on December 12th. I can't seem to get rid of the nausea and spent a week vomiting and in pain and not knowing why. I tried Alka Seltzer and Tums and even Brioschi and they all just made me throw up.

I'm finding that eating oatmeal, and dry crackers are keeping me settled. The thought of eating meat makes me ill just thinking about it and I've been worried that not eating enough protein will put the pounds on. To my surprise, I lost 10 pounds. I'm happy about the weight loss but don't know what to eat, or when. Some nights, when I can't sleep I wake up ravenous and wanting to eat, but when I go to look for something the nausea keeps me from getting anything except crackers or dry bread.

How long will this last? Is the nausea a normal part of recovery?

Nausea and Heartburn

It is not a normal part of recovery for most - but some do have it... try Herbal Mint Tea - great for helping the tummy settle... I drank POTS of it after my surgery...

Major surgery is *ell on a body... so I found out... the good news is - it will settle down in time... at 3 weeks I was only eating scrambled eggs, toast and chicken and rice soup... I couldn't eat until day 8 at all...

Give yourself time to recover... when you are hungry eat...

Try Gaviscon to help with the heartburn... it was MUCH better than tums or anything else I tried... doc recommended it - for when I needed something extra to go with my stomach med...

Again - if you are having a LOT of heartburn - go and talk to your doc... part of my problem was a yeast infection in my digestion system and I had to have med to deal with it...
