Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

Pain is such an individual response. Some gals need more pain support than others, listen to your body. I have been lucky and did not need much however the downside is I tend to overdo things and insist on doing everything on my own, (too many years working as an ER nurse, my co-workers have toughened me up and expect me to be working 12 hr shifts post op day 9).
All the best to you gals, may you heal quickly and feel great soon!

Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

Hi kek0516 -
I had the Q ball as well. I am convinced that was the thing that kept most of my pain under control. I also had the "at the dentist" feeling. So glad that we have this technology now!!!

For everyone hitting bumps in the recovery road - Lots of hugs ans healing thoughts!!!

Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op, and last night I broke down and took percocet before bed. When I came home from the castle I only needed it at night, and took the motrin during the day. I walked around quite a bit yesterday, so I think that was probably the problem.
Good luck in your healing. I just need to remember to take it ssllooowwly...maybe even slower than that...

Benadryl did not even help the itching. Yikes!
e sure to include darvocet on your "allergic to meds" list. I had the same reaction (rash on arms) when I was given percocet.

I took norco twice post op but it did not a thing. Narcotics don't seem to work for me. I'm 4 days post-op and taking nabumentone (gentle NSAID) and Extra-Strength Tylenol.

Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

I never took anything stronger than a advil once I got home. I do not do well with pain pills all they do for me is make me want to vomit most of the time they do not even take the pain from me. It may sound silly but I would rather hurt a little than be vomiting and hurting anyways.

Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

I am 10 days post-op. I came home with Oxycodon and Motrin. I tried taking the Oxy at night, as it made me a little dizzy, but later discovered it was keeping me awake. So I took Motrin. I had little pain, just tiredness. Then I realized both drugs were aggravating my tinnitis! And thinking that at this date the pain would be gone, I switched to Advil.
Alas, the pain was not gone! I have ached and hurt all day long. (But the tinnitis was better!) But now I am back on Oxy, trying to get the pain back under control. All day I felt as if I needed to hold my belly.

Hi. I don't know if this might be any help, but I had trouble with percocet with dizziness and my doc. had me try darvocet 100 which is sort of a step between any percocet level and ibuprofen. BTW, interesting about the difference with your tinnitus when taking motrin or advil since they have the same active ingredient, ibuprofen. I know i have read that ibuprofen can make tinnitus worse. I wonder if there's some inactive ingredient in there that makes the difference.

Hang in there,

Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

I had a TAH with vertical incision on 10-28 due to an 8 lb. uterus and endometriosis. I am 12 days post op and weaning off pain meds. I started with morphine, demerol and toradol in hospital. Prior to being discharged I asked for something a little weaker and the gave me lortab 10. I am now taking lortab 7.5 about 2 times daily. I will try to wean off with aleve or motrin. I think the pain meds have helped tremendously and am not concerned with the length of time I have had to take them. I hope to be completely off in a few days, but I will still have a whole script unused left. If they help, take them. I think this helps to move around better and heal faster. Everyone is different.

Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

I had a tah/hernia and took the narcotics for 3 weeks. After the first 2 weeks I think I was taking them only at night. Although, I was still achy feeling for 8 weeks. I remember the first time we went out to eat at 3 weeks I was still feeling bad. Remember to ask for a booth. That helps, I had no problem telling the hostess that I had surgery and needed that. The doc's were right on when they said it would take 8 weeks to recover. Just don't pickup anything heavy, I did a couple of times and paid for it.

Re: How long did you take pain meds post-op?

I have had multiple problems with medicines. Sometimes, muscle relaxants seem to help. i don't know if it makes tinnitus worse or not but Soma and Skelaxin did seem to help when the narcotics weren't tolerated. Hopefully this might help.
