Re: Going Back to Work
Hi Fax
what did you have done. 6 weeks seems very soon. I had TAH and was off for about 3 months.
Take as much time as you need - work will still be there. Your body will tell you when you are ready to go back full time...x

Re: Going Back to Work
I got a job offer maybe two weeks before my surgery. We put off my start date as long as possible while still allowing me to accept and start the job. It's a job I've wanted at the hospital I've wanted to work at for quite a while now, so I didn't want to pass it up.
Anyway, I started just 2 1/2 weeks after my surgery. My doc released me to do it as long as I agreed to listen to my body and rest during my off time (as much as a mom of five *can* rest anyway). My boss and the folks training me have been very understanding of pain issues and energy level. I've not had pain in probably a couple weeks, so that's great. Energy issues still abound. I think it's largely from going back to work full time so soon after my surgery, though. My body only has so much energy to give.
After my training is over (probably around Thanksgiving) I'll only be working part time - so I'm about half way there & am looking forward to having a more sane schedule soon!
So...yeah, full time is a big deal. I had a laparoscopic daVinci, so my recovery was less painful than it could have been and the surgery, I think, was a little less traumatic on my body than it could have been.
Go back to full time when the doc ok's you for it and when your body says you can...don't push yourself. You're recovering from major surgery!

Re: Going Back to Work
I could have never gone back to work at 6 weeks. I was more the 3 months. Just take it easy & listen to your body.

Re: Going Back to Work
I had a TAH/BSO and went back to work at 5 1/2 weeks. I work in an elementary school with special needs kids. My first 2 days back were during state teacher meeting days--so no kids were at school. I have done very well. Came home tired the first couple of days of school with the kids, and just went to bed a little earlier than normal.
I knew my body was ready. I had very little trouble during recovery and walked almost daily around my neighborhood, starting with short distances and increasing the distance as I felt stronger.

Re: Going Back to Work
I tried going back at 3, 4, 6. Even at 6, I wasn't ready but I thought I was. I totally understand your not being ready to be full-time yet and if you have permission not to have to be full-time, take advantage of it!

Re: Going Back to Work
I went back to work at 6-1/2 weeks after my tah also had a bladder injury from surgery. My job included being on my feet 8hrs a day. I was given a weight lifting restriction from my dr. The only thing that bothered me was feeling very tired, but after a month of being back it got better. Just try not to over do it and if anything hurts try to take it easy.
