I had my surgery in May 2013, but online grocery shopping apparently didn't become available in Canada until the summer of 2014. It's still not common or widespread.

It also really wasn't an issue for me. I stocked up on several weeks' supply of non-perishables before surgery as well as two weeks' supply of perishables. My neighbour had offered to resupply perishables as necessary, so if I *hadn't* been able to start accessing the supermarket the third week, I would have asked her.

I also had plenty of time my hands to walk back and forth with small loads. I went back to work at four weeks, but by then my lifting limit had been raised from 10 to 30 lbs. In any case, I walk past the supermarket on my way home from work, so it's easy to stop in and pick up things.

If I ever break a leg or hip, *that* would make grocery shopping a major issue. Hysterectomy recovery, not so much.

I normally do one big shop at the weekend.
Got it. That sounds a bit like my relationship with the large shopping mall three miles away. I only go out there every couple/few months, so when I go, I try to hit multiple stores and get everything that I might need from there.

5 weeks post hysterectomy: Vent - I can't wait until I can lift things

I am in the UK. I tried online grocery shopping before, but I didn't like it because they always brought over things that were just about to go off, even when I specifically asked them not to do that. So I would end up throwing food away because we couldn't eat it in time.

In a related vent, my husband keeps saying "Try it and see if it hurts." I can't seem to get him to understand that if it hurts, it could already be too late. I'm pretty sure that if I wanted to I could carry a heavy bag of groceries or run the vacuum over the floor. But there might be consequences.

Keep that line about, "Try it and see if it hurts," on hand in case he ever has hernia surgery. One of my male co-workers had that a year after I had my hysterectomy. It was hilarious to hear him complaining about how he couldn't do this and he couldn't do that and how did they expect him to.

I just sat there going, "Uh-huh, uh-huh." When he finally stopped for breath I said, "Been there, done that. Last summer." He admitted that this was true.

I don't think people really get it until it happens to *them*.

I think some husbands need to be told to get knotted tbh.

I think someones suggestion of showing them the surgery you have just had could be a good idea.

I was very frustrated at my restrictions too. It was very difficult not to do things I knew I usually could.
I kept telling myself that I didn't want to start over as I had come so far already.
I am at 7 weeks now and trust me that following doctors orders to the letter is totally worth it. I have never felt better. I am able to do all activities and all of the frustration is just a distant memory.
Keep up your good work!

To be fair, he is going to work every day and doing shopping, cooking and housework while walking around on an injured knee.
