I need help, I'm scared

I went for my first pap smear in 5 years last Monday. I thought something was wrong but I almost didn't want to know. Last Thursday I had a sonogram and today I got my results. Everyone here (on this site) seems to be so well informed. I think I must have gone into shock because I don't remember alot of what was said, just bits and pieces. The doctor said that one of my ovaries is twice the size of the other one and that it appears to have ruptured. They are not sure at this point if I have ovarian cancer. She also said that there is some blood in my abdomen. I also have endometriosis. Her recommendation is that I have a total hysterectomy. Is a ruptured ovary very serious? I know I need to get more information from her but I don't even know what to ask. Please help me to understand.

I need help, I'm scared

If I were you I would schedule the surgery A.S.A.P. From what I know about ovaries that rupture, surgery is done immediately. A number of years ago (less than 10 yrs. ago) my cousin's ovary ruptured, she was in excruciating pain, went to the E.R., they called in a gynocologist, and she was prepped for surgery immediately. If you don't trust your doc. get a second opinion, but do it soon. My feeling is it is better to be safe than sorry. I am here for you if you need me. Please let me know how you make out. This site is great, not only for information but for support.

I need help, I'm scared

Are you sure she said ruptured ovary and not a ruptured ovarian cyst? I have had those and they pretty much absorbed themselves into the body. They are painful, I thought it was my appendix. I had endometriosis back in September and it also was very painful. Sex and periods are VERY painful. My doc did a D&C and laproscopic surgery to burn the endometriosis off of my other organs. While he was in there he also did a biopsy to check for uterine cancer. Tests came back negative. At 6 week checkup for post surgery it was time for my annual pap. It was the 1st time it ever came back abnormal and I have NEVER missed a pap smear since I was 16. I had a colposcopy and 3small cervical biopsies done on Dec. 1st. Pathology reports looked bad so I had a cold knife conesation.....kind of like a cone biopsy but a bigger piece of the cervix, on Dec. 22nd. Pathology results came back showing non invasive, cervical cancer. I am having a TAH done on Feb.11th. I can't wait for it to be over with. I say if you trust your doctor you should call back, explain you were and probably still are in shock and would they please explain again exactly what is going on with your body. or you could always go for a second opinion. Write down questions you want to ask and research on the internet, talk to hyster sisters, very, very helpful. Good luck!

I need help, I'm scared

PLEASE go call your MD right now. Ask her specifically what she told you...and write it down. It is so hard to absorb info when it comes as such a shock. The most fearful part of all of this right now is the unknown...is the ovary ruptured....do I have cancer....

Once you get the info you can begin to deal with it and you will have much more strength than you ever thought you had.

I'll keep you in my prayers,
Shel
