In fact, unless I have to eat to not have an empty stomach when taking the post-op meds, I can go without. Without stuffing my maw every second, I think it's going to be a lot easier to lose weight.
The problem, Chocolate4Cure, is that, unfortunately, your current lack of appetite is temporary; after a while you're going to experience the same appetite sensations you've had before. That's why I said you're going to need motivation and determination in order to succeed at weight loss.

I was hospital for nine days. I started my bowel prep with liquids only on a Tuesday. The next time I ate anything at all was the following Thursday (9 days - I had a complication called an ileus and to cure it I could not eat or drink and was not even allowed to suck on ice chips; I could only brush my teeth). Trust me when I tell you that by that Thursday, I never wanted to see food again - I didn't want it, and like you, I figured, "Hey...this is great!" Weeelll...nine weeks later, the appetite is back and I now have to make conscious choices about what I eat.

And, of course, you know that exercise is an integral part of any weight management program, and having a hysterectomy will certainly not make you fall in love with exercise. You will have to, again, make a conscious choice to want to get on that bike, go for a walk or start a program that will make you more active.

I do agree with you when you say you're not going to worry about your weight for six weeks. That is the time you need to rest and heal, and in my mind, that should take precedence over everything else. You've got one shot to heal correctly and you do not what to overdo anything. When you do start that exercise program, however, take it slow - you don't want to undo all the doctor's handiwork...!

Re: Hoping to lose weight....

Thanks for all the input ladies. In preparation for my surgery next week, which is total laprascopic, including ovaries and cervix, I started a walking exercise program a couple of weeks ago. Doing 3 miles a day, 5 days a week. I also play golf a couple of times a week, which I know will be on hold for a few weeks following surgery. Just hoping to be more prepared following surgery, but I've lost a few pounds already. I believe I will be more motivated afterwards, just by feeling better.
