3rd week and wondering about depression
I am presently being treated for depression (prozac and wellbrutrin nfor years). When discussing this with my doctor, he was not concerned and said for me to continue to take my meds as before. I am just wondering if anyone else shares this scenario and whether or not they have noticed any emotional changes. So far , I haven't but I do worry that my hormones may tip me in the wrong direction further into the process. Is this a concern for anyone else, and if so, what have you experienced? Thanks and Speedy recovery to everyone!

Re: 3rd week and wondering about depression
Hi! My surgery was a little over a year ago. I take two antidepressants as well. Those doses stayed the same and have not been affected as long as my estrogen replacement is high enough. Did you keep your ovaries or are you on replacement therapy?

Re: 3rd week and wondering about depression
I did not have my ovaries removed. My doctor said he would make sure they were ok and leave them if at all possible. Prior to surgery, I had been reading about how removal of the ovaries sends you into instant menopause. "Instant" menopause translated into stark, raving, mad in my mind so I really did not want that scenario. Another complication was that my mom died of breast cancer and the idea of HRT scares me to death. I figured leaving my ovaries in would just let the hormones decrease steadily over time which would help me deal with it in the long run.
However, other than a few night sweats, I'm not experiencing any other symptoms at this point. But I'm a worrier .... and I just wanted to find out how others have made out in this situation.

Re: 3rd week and wondering about depression
I had my surgery well over a year ago and did have concern about depression but it did not happen. If you are taking medication I would say continue to do so. I had a total hyst and have not had any sign of menopause to date. We are all different and knowing your body is always important. Move as your body instructs the body has it's way of telling us what we should and should not be doing. pray your recovery goes well. Peace and blessings

Re: 3rd week and wondering about depression
I would continue to take your medication but also make sure to keep talking to your doc about how you are doing with it. I have bad reactions to medications and especially since my DvH with BSO but my docs are now lowering doses as needed for some meds. Everyone is different and reacts differently to this.

Re: 3rd week and wondering about depression
My current soap box is anyone with depression should have a sleep study!! Both myself and someone else I know suffered severe depression. Had sleep study for something else and was dx with apnea. Most life changing moment of my life!!! After 10 yrs on meds I have now been med free for 2yrs with my cpap!
Anyway. As fir depression following surgery my worst was 3wks. At 4 wks something magical happened lol
