Looking for opinions on a product for hormone treatments

I had a TAH on Oct 5th. My mom bought me some herbal tablets & some cream. So far the herbal tablets are helping as far as I can tell. My problem is with the cream. It says to use it for 21 days-then stop for 7 days. I used it one time. The next day I had a major attack of what I call PMS.

I use to get it pretty bad every month & am glad my other half finally listened to me after 3 years of arguing once a month & started helping me thru it instead of fighting me thru it. Made it alot easier to get through that way lol.

I have not used it since & have had no reoccurences of the PMS . It's Pro-gest Body Cream.

The 21 days on then 7 days off is what gets me. It's like similating a period. Once the 21 days stop it's instant PMS.

I am not using since that happened for fear of a reoccurance of the PMS symptoms.
So far I have not had any other moodiness other than being bored to death with not being able to do anything. I feel no different than before I had the hysterectomy other than the boredom.

The lady said it helps with hot flashes & overall helps you feel better but it didn't chance my additude until I didn't use it -of course it may be just a coincidence but I don't think so since I have had no other major mood swings since then.

The hot flashes I can live with - my other half sleeps fully clothed most of the time since I have to have the fan on at night. He's real good about that actually thank heavens.

Anyways any help on this is appreciated. I am thinking of sticking to just the herbal tablets & not using the cream if I have to go through the moodiness each time I quit using it. Not worth it if that's the case.

And to be honest the one time was bad enough that I am scared to risk it happening again. Even my other half had a hard time with this attack of it & he's gotten pretty good at dealing with them in the last 10 or so years since I finally after 3 years of major problems each month was able to help readjust his thinking on how to deal with PMS each month lol.
Thanks for any info anyone can give.
Willow
Just think in another 6 weeks I can get away with all this again!!!! :dance2:

Looking for opinions on a product for hormone treatments

I can tell you from very unfortunate personal experience, that I have UNCONTROLLED sobbing & I do mean SOBBING like I'm grieving @ a funeral anytime I use any form of progesterone. This is just my experience, & I know it has helped a lot of sisters but for me, it causes deep depression overnight. In fact, I tried 0.2cc's of 20mg/cc the night before last rubbed into breast's 'coz I was concerned about possible "estrogen dominance" that I've been reading a lot about, & I cried all day & I mean ALL DAY yest-----I called my gyne for advice, & he suggested Prozac!!!!! I don't think these Dr's have any idea how much hormones can affect you mentally-----it's a proven fact!! So I went back to my testost cream & same dose of Vivelle Dot & I feel great this morning!! There are a lot of excellent books @ www.amazon.com------type in hormones or menopause, etc in search & a ton will come up; you did mention you were bored & reading will help pass the time. Enjoy!!

Glad to know it's not just me

So far I guess i'm lucky. The only thing i'm using are the herbs my mom bought me. I guess everyone is different. I talked to the lady at the health food store & she wouldn't consider the fact that I was doing me any harm. Kept insisting that it was something I needed. I need it like I need another hole in my head is how I see it!! Frontal Labotomy maybe? grin. The herbs seem to be working well so why push it right?

So far so good on the surgery with me. Knock on wood. The doctor obviously did a good job on me & i'm glad too after hearing the stories from others who were not so lucky. I have pain but nothing bad enough to require medication. And the way I see it is that I would rather be alert & deal with pain than be all groggy and pain free. I don't do pain killers well. I can't function on them. Plus I suspect they numb a person up enough that it's possible to hurt yourself & not realize it because of the meds.

Also the pain killers can be habit forming. The doctors & nurses were literally trying to push me enough to make me agree to take some home even though I said I didn't want any. Go figure. It's just my opinion though. Some seem to need it more than others. Glad i'm not one of them lol.

Good news is that I got my tape off today & that was a relief. The tape was better than staples but it still drove me nuts. Now to find something to do other than read. That's not gonna be easy!!!! It's kinda like this but that too will soon pass i'm sure lol.
Thanks again-glad to now that it's not just me or my imagination.

Thanks again
Willow

Looking for opinions on a product for hormone treatments

Hi Willow!

I hope you will discuss with your doctor whether hormone therapy is something to consider. You're not at an age of natural menopause and while you may do well initially, you may find later that you aren't doing as well as your body depletes the hormones made by your ovaries. If you can't or choose not to use hormones, your doctor can help guide you through that as well. You'll need to be sure you're taking the proper supplements for your bone health, for example. Whether or not to use hormones is a personal choice. There is a lot of information on this site for women using hormones and for those who are not. You can find it in this link to the Resource Database. There's a category there called Hormone Jungle - Jungle Resources and another called Hormone Jungle - No Hormones.

It's wonderful that you are managing your post-op pain without pain medication! I hope you will continue to heal well and have a smooth recovery.

s to you!
