I would ask your doctor. I was told that I could even get a tub bath right after surgery. I have yet to do so because I was worried about the actually getting up out of the tub. I don't see where a pool would be much different except for the chlorine. So, I would guess that when your incision heals that you can get into the pool. Just to be sure call your doctor.

Again I would suggest asking your doctor.

Mine gave me permission for baths and a personal pool at 2 weeks, but cautioned me strongly against hot tubs, lakes, and community pools due to germs.

I am 4 weeks post op today and still have not taken more than showers.

I am hoping that my dr will let me swim after my appointment Wednesday! Watching the kids swim in this 90 degree heat is no fun at all. I was at I month yesterday!

I swim 1 mile a day (72 laps) at Bally's and had to wait 4 weeks before I could resume swimming because of the risk of infection from public pool. And it wasn't the incision he was worried about getting infected it was internally and I had SAH. The doctor did say if I had my own personal pool I could swim at 2 weeks when the incision was well healed. So ask the doctor--since it's your own pool he'll probably let you go.

I was allowed to go into my own hot tub at 2 weeks, and my incision wasn't even healed. I was allowed to go to the public pool at 4 weeks post op.

And I did.

I had my 6 wk. check today and was finally OK'd to get into the pool. Wouldn't you know that I was in for 5 min. and it clouded up and rained -- and I have to go back to work tomorrow

Hi to all. I had my 4 week post-op visit last week and asked my surgeon the same question about swimming in our own pool. She wanted me to wait two more weeks, for the total of 6 weeks. Same for baths. Mine was a TAH-BSO. My incision is healing nicely, and I suppose the idea is to keep everything out of the inside healing as well.

Like we have seen in this post, each doctor has their own guidelines!

May all our good healing continue!

My doctor told me it was ok to get in personal pool at 2 weeks. I had a LAVH on May 19th.

Faith in Chlorine

My doctor -- who evidently has boundless faith in chlorine -- released me to start swimming gentle lengths in a public pool at two weeks post-op.

However she only did that after she'd seen how I was recovering from the surgery -- prior to surgery, her instructions were more restictive.

I had a TAH/vertical incision. I started swimming at 16 days post-op and haven't stopped since. (And yes, I'm getting VERY wrinkly and waterlogged. )

Best wishes for a smooth recovery.

Keep well,
