Depression and weight gain

It has been 10 months since my full hysterectopmy. I have mood swings one minute I am fine the next I am so angry I just want to be left alone and after I scream at every one I feel so bad. I don't even feel myself any more.

This last month my weight gain is terrifying I am not use to it. I don't fit in my jeans anymore feel bloted and un sexy.

Please help me I am losing myself

Re: Depression and weight gain

Are you taking HRT? Either way, I would go to the doc and discuss how you are feeling and what options there are to make you feel better. You deserve it.

Re: Depression and weight gain

I was feeling the same as you, so I discussed it with my Dr. and started HRT. One week after I started HRT the old me was back!
So talk with your Dr. to see what can be done to help you.

Re: Depression and weight gain

Your gyn should be able to assist you with HRT issues.

Re: Depression and weight gain

It sounds like you do need to have your hormones checked & maybe even your thyroid. Them being off can make you feel terrible. I hope you find some answers soon.

Re: Depression and weight gain

I am post op 6 months and have not felt like myself. I am on low dose estradiol. I have been depressed and cannot adjust psychologically or emotionally to the loss of my uterus and ovaries. A OB/GYN hormone specialist has me on 25 mg of DHEA. That has not changed how I feel yet. I do not have any libido. Does anyone know if more estrogen helps with mood or weight gain?

Re: Depression and weight gain

I am very self conscious about my weight gain since TAH on 8/20. I'm back at work, but still gaining. My dr put me on Cymbalta 60 since I have a strong family history of breast cancer he doesn't want me on hormones. I forgot to take it one day & realized how much it does help. It's supposed to help with hot flashes, but still having them. I have felt so much better since I joined HS & found out I'm not the only one going through all these changes.

Re: Depression and weight gain

It seems that every few good days I have are followed by days that I feel like crying over any little thing. I have never been so emotionally labile before. Are easy tears from lack of hormones or too much?

Re: Depression and weight gain

I had a TVH with oopherectomy at age 51 in June. I cannot take HRT due to a diagnosis of DCIS with ER+/PR+ cells. I also had a mastectomy in late June.

I had terrible hot flashes (20+ a day) and got a progesterone shot that has helped with the hot flashes. I have been HF free for 3 months now. I am irritable sometimes, but I think that is fatigue. I am back to work full time and it wears me down.

I have not had weight gain but I have to be very, very careful of what I eat and I exercise almost daily. I must say it is harder to lose weight, but I was experiencing that anyway.

Perhaps with younger women (pre-menopausal) who have ovaries out the problems with weight and hormones are more dramatic. I hope you can get some relief!
