Bladder problem

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else that has had a hysterectomy had bladder pain? I think thats what it is anyway?... When I pee or have a BM, I get an intense pressure pain. I havent been checked for a UTI yet, just wondering if this pain/pressure that I feel is normal and if anyone else has had it and how long it lasted. Thanks!
The surgery was 2 weeks ago and was done abdominally

Re: Bladder problem

It could be that it is a result of the bladder being jostled during surgery. It may even be having spasms as a result. However, UTIs after hysterectomy are not uncommon either. You should call your doc and get checked for a UTI and let him/her know what is going on. Either way, they may be able to give you something to help you feel better. In the meantime, keep drinking plenty of fluids.

Re: Bladder problem

I am 1 day ahead of you with my TAH and I have the same complaint. It doesn't really hurt, though, it's just pressure and feels weird when I urinate. I have a 2 week check up on Tuesday and I plan to ask my GYN about it then.

Re: Bladder problem

I am 4 weeks out and I am still taking antibiotics. It started out as an uti and then discovered bacteria and yeast in the urine. I will finish day 28 with antibiotics today. Please consult your Dr. I think it's a common thing after surgery possibly from the catheter. Good luck and it slowly goes better

Re: Bladder problem

It sounds like bladder spasms.

I experienced this for about 10 weeks post op

The pain was quite intense at times but eventually it settled on its own.
I was told to pass urine every 4-6 hours.

It can be triggered by having your bladder handled during surgery and as a result of being catheterised. I guess some of us are just more sensitive

Try not to worry - take pain killers and I found a hot water bottle helped soothe the discomfort.
Hope you feel better soon x

Re: Bladder problem

This continued with me for several weeks and it was miserable. Estrace cream really helped me, and time, but i had my ovaries out. It could be jostling from surgery and or catheter too.

Re: Bladder problem

I had this also. I still have it occasionally but I think it is from just what the other ladies are saying.. bladder being handled during surgery and cathed.
Gosh I hated the feeling of them taking that cath out! I will never forget that.
But my bladder is just now calming down and I dont feel much when Im "going" now. I was having spasms and some pain and had a feeling that I couldnt empty all the way but I had to stay calm and let it work.
Just relax! I also take probiotics and was taking cranberry pills right after surgery also to prevent a UTI and to clean out my kidneys and "the works".
