Found Fibroids....Kind of long...

Hi ladies, I hope everyone is doing good!

I have a TAH scheduled for August 18th. I was diagnosed with endo ten years ago. I am so ready for the hysterectomy! I was in a lot of pain from last Tuesday until Saturday, as of Saturday I could not handle the pain any more. So I went to the ER, the ended up finding a basketball sized fibroid tumor on my uterus, a huge ovarian cyst and a large abdominal cyst (he called it d something cyst I have never heard of it). Nothing is helping the pain! My hip, spine and pelvic bone have horrible pressure pains. I have a constant shooting pain done the inside of my left leg and my knee is really tender. I also am super constantly on the verge of throwing up. The er wanted to call in a surgeon but I really wanted my dr, so they agreed to let me go home and see my doctor first thing Monday. Well my dr's evil office manager (she has worked there all eight years I have been going and she is not the nicest person) she told me that it;s not a bog deal and to wait until the 18th. So I ask to talk to my dr and she said I would have to make an appointment. The soonest she would let me make an appointment is tomorrow)Thursday. I am so miserable and so tired! I am also so concern that at this point my dr won't move up the surgery. Has anyone been through anything similar? I am really scared that this could be something worse and they are just letting it grow (note: I went from on thursady my jeans being loose to Saturday they wouldn't even come close to buttoning!) Any help or advice would be great. Sorry it is so long!

Re: Found Fibroids....Kind of long...

(((Sister))) I'm sorry you're going though all of this right now and that you are facing surgery at this time.

My uterus was very enlarged, and I had many fibroids as well.

The good news about fibroids is they are almost never cancerous . They can change in size, getting larger and smaller with hormone fluctuations. (My largest fibroid was the size of a softball in 2000, but when I had my hysterectomy in 2004, the largest was 3.5 cm., much smaller.)

I wonder if the doctor was referring to a dermoid cyst? I didn't have one of these, but if you do a search on "dermoid cyst", you'll find other (((sisters))) have gone through this.

I hope your surgery brings relief for your symptoms.

You might want to take a look at our Tell Your Hyst-Story subforum -- it contains all sorts of experiences from the who have gone before you.

You have some time to prepare, but not too much -- which sometimes can be better than having lots of time on your hands before surgery. It will be some time before you'll be able to do laundry, wash dishes, or dust, so you might want to give your house a good cleaning (if you're up to it). Personally, I gave myself the best gift of all and hired someone to come in and clean for me!

I know the other (((sisters))) will be along to share their experiences with you. Best wishes as you make your final preparations for the .

Re: Found Fibroids....Kind of long...

I'm so sorry!

Yes, yes, yes and yes...your symptoms sounds so familiar to me.

Definately be your own advocate and let them know how bad it is and what your concerns are. I got diagnosed as being "constipated" even though I could feel I had two partial bowel obstructions. Then I got told it was probably IBS. When they got in there, they found a colon polyp that was causing one obstruction. The other ended up being a uterine fibriod that is pushing into my colon. I sure wanted to do a chewing out on the doctors that said constipation and IBS!

Can you get a copy of the ER report to take to the doctor...showing that they thought an emergency hysterectomy was in order? That might strengthen your case.

I'd also let the doc know of the unhelpful nature of the front desk clerk. That gal is not entitled to make life or death decisions on the doc's behalf, and she is obviously doing so.

Re: Found Fibroids....Kind of long...

I agree totally with Chocolate4Cure. The front desk girl has no business telling you when you should or shouldn't have your surgery. Take your ER report with you and tell your Dr how you feel. Hopefully, he will understand and move up your day at the castle. Let us know the outcome of your visit.
Best wishes to you.

Re: Found Fibroids....Kind of long...

bkatyj - that's an awful situation for you, and I agree that the receptionist is WAY out of line. I think it's a great idea to get the ER report to take with you. I would be tempted to phone the receptionist again and tell her that if she doesn't book you an appointment TODAY that you will be coming to camp out in the wait room. Shame on her!

Wishing you all the very best.
