Hormone Confusion - have ovaries
Hi there
I am just 3 months post op, about 3 weeks ago I started to feel absolutely terrible. I have had anxiety all my life but I was crying at the drop of a hat, cold feet, shaky, hot at night and sometimes a wave of depression would wash over me. I have been to the doctor and had blood tests which all returned normal. She put me on oestrogen and I have to say I felt better on and off. I am still up and down. Seriously I dont know what is normal. I have both of my ovaries. My thyroid came back normal too.
Is this hormonal, I am sick of the ups and downs any feedback would great.
I know everyone has a different idea of normal but is this up and down normal even with ovaries? Any feedback would be great and if you used any HRT what made the anxiety lift. I am on the lowest dose of oestrogen.
Thanks
Jools

Re: Hormone Confusion - have ovaries
Hi -
My problems started about 4 mo post op. I also kept my ovaries. First signs something wasn't right for me was anxiety on and off, but constant dryness issues. I was put on estrace creme for the dryness - nothing for anxiety at first. I was hoping my ovaries were suddenly going to kick in and start functioning..it doesn't look like that is going to happen. (I'm 48). I got progessively worse - went back to ob/gyn 7 mo post op because I had hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, exhaustion..was unable to sleep thru the night. I am on Effexor and it's working great. It has really helped with hot flashes and night sweats, and the anxiety. I'm on the lowest dose and its working just fine. I never had my levels checked - am going to my primary tomorrow for a physical and I'm going to ask to have that done just because I am curious. I honestly don't think I'm perimenopausal - I think I'm pretty much menopausal right now. I will say, before I started the Effexor I did feel up and down - I had a few good days, but the bad days were more prevalent..I really did not feel normal at all. Good luck to you!!! Hugs!

Re: Hormone Confusion - have ovaries
I was on Lupron for 5 months prior to my SAH. I've been having "warm rises" and night sweats since surgery. It doesn't help that it's 110 degress here in Arizona, but DH says he notices the night sweats (the AC is blowing right over me). The day flashes are *nothing* compared to the Lupron flashes (the "real deal" of hot flashes!).
My doctor said that because blood flow was cut off during surgery, it is possible that they are not quite back to normal and to wait about 4 months out before making a decision for HR. I'm 49 but had no menopausal signs -- but then again, this could be age kicking in.
Check with your doctor to see what she/he says.
