Upcoming hysterectomy (7/17): Will I need a tummy binder for a LAVH?
My surgery is scheduled for July 17 and I am unsure as to whether or not I will need a tummy binder. I had my right ovary removed last year and I was in some pain, and I feel like a binder would have helped. This isn't going to involve a large abdominal incision, but I know I will still need a lot of help with recovery. Should I invest in the binder or not worry at all?

I was wondering the same thing. My LAVH is on Wednesday. My doctor said I wouldn't need it but am still wondering if it would help.

Re: Will I need a tummy binder for a LAVH?
It might be good to have one on hand, just in case. I know having it via laparoscopy is supposed to be easier, but I'd hate for us to find out the hard way that we needed it. I have Crohn's disease and when I had a bowel resection (they removed 15 inches of intestines), I didn't have a binder and OMG I should have had one. It was the worst pain I've ever had in my life. I'm scared this surgery will be like that!

Basically it's like a waist cincher but for abdominal surgeries. It gives us extra support and stability so we don't bust stitches or staples, and it makes it easier to move around by lessening the movement in our abdomen.

Do you wear it over or under your clothes?

I had a lavh 5 weeks ago and I didn't feel like I needed a binder. IMO your belly will swell off and on and your incisions need room to breathe and heal anything covering it is just delaying the healing process. good luck this week!

Re: Will I need a tummy binder for a LAVH?
I had laparoscopic surgery a few weeks ago and I feel like that would have helped. My belly was pretty swollen and jiggly afterward and I spent the first two weeks supporting it with my hands when I walked. Everyone told me I looked like I was pregnant holding my rounded tummy like that : /
