Vaginal cuff wound

Hi everyone! I have a question. Saw MD today for my six week check up and she told me i have an opening in my vaginal cuff that hasnt healed yet To update you, i had a TAH 1/2/07 and developed a large hematoma above my bladder. stayed in hospital for two weeks. Apparently, the pressure of the hematoma caused the delay in healing and thus the opening. she is putting me on a round of abx and wants to see me every ten days for a while...she said she may have to "trim some tissue" to help the healing process Has anyone had experience with this problem or have an idea what to expect if she does have to trim tissue...doesnt sound fun. i was jumping when she was just doing her exam today! thanks for any info

That doesn't sound very pleasant. I wish you all the best. I cringed when I had my 2 week checkup. I was in tears. So I really hope that she won't have to trim anything. Best of luck

All my love

Vaginal cuff wound

They diagnosed mine while i was still in the hospital. Around post op day four, my bowels were still not functioning at all. I had a lot of pain and ran fevers every night which is a common presentation if there is fluid in the belly. My doctor ordered a CT scan around post of day 6 when the fevers didn't respond to the IV abx i was on and my bowels still werent working....no bowel sounds at all and my bladder wouldn't function as well. The CT confirmed that i had a 7cm hematoma on top of my bladder. Iended up staying in the castle for 12 days as well as having a drain placed in my abdomen to try to drain the hematoma.

I had no external symptoms at all because my hematoma was deep internally. however, you can develop hematomas closer to the surface that can present as swelling, redness, soreness etc.

I didn't catch how far out you are post operatively but i do have an area of swelling to the right of my incision near my belly button. My doctor didn't seem too concerned with that today. I hope all goes well with you when you see your doctor. If you develop sudden fever or other symptoms, make sure to call him before Friday. I have learned that we know our bodies better than anyone, and if something isnt right it is important to make sure our MDs know. Let me know how it goes

Vaginal cuff wound

tracyrn, I just returned from the dr. and he doesn't know what is going on. He said that the skin below my incision is retracting. He checked twice to see if it was a hernia. He took me off of motrin. I have to go back next week. thats all for now, thanks

I had an infection in the vaginal cuff but nothing that required "trimming". The infection itself was painful so I'm thinking that trimming anything in there wouldn't have been a pleasant experience.

and Good luck.

Vaginal cuff wound

I had two post-hysterectomy surgeries to restitch my cuff area, both times they "trimmed" to get good tissue to stitch. Both of mine were actually outpatient surgeries. Depending on how much of the cuff that is open you might be able to heal over the wound on your own, without actual surgeries. This will cause a certain amount of scar tissue (and granulation tissue) that can be cauterized with silver nitrate or Mondell's solution - both of which are painless and done in the office.

My tears were 3.5 cm and 1.5 cm - one occured at about day 7 post-hyst and the other sometime after my first restitch job (14 days post-op). I had my second surgery 17 days ago.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Good luck.
