Post-op sex question
I'm having TAH/BSO on June 5th. My dr explained that he'll need to sew up the vagina. I have no idea how long that is. Is it short enough that DH can run into the closure?

Post-op sex question
Hey, I am having same thing on the 20th. well, we're going to try to keep one of the ovaries, but...
Anyway...I haven't had my surgery yet, but in mine he will be removing my cervix and creating a vaginal cuff. Yah, I had never heard of it either, until this lovely website. the cuff is where the end of the vaginal canal is folded over and sewn (much like the cuff on a shirt) to mimic the functions of the cervix. Kind of...I don't think I am explaining this well... anyway, I would call and ask your doctor or his nurse...this is not the kind of worry or concern you should have going into this surgery. There are some posts I think in post op or even old pre op that deal with this same issue. That's how I first heard of it. Check those out, your info will be a little clearer. good luck and let me know how it all goes.

Thanks. I'm too embarrassed to call the drs office on this one. I'll check the other message boards. I forgot that I can read them even though I can't post.

Post-op sex question
The vaginal cuff is described as "like sewing a tube sock closed". the top of the vagina will be created with sutures and closed off. Some say that is does shorten the vagina cavity a tiny bit, but other dr's claim that with the capacity to stretch that the vagina has, it will not be noticable at all to either participant.
My DH and I waited 10 weeks for our first session, just because we were nervous about it. Found out that there was no need. Everything was great!! My DH is well endowed, and he said he did not notice any difference in length or in quality. I have read about stitches not healing up there, so make sure you are healed and released for sex from your Dr. before you have your night of fun!
I don't notice any difference either, so it is great to not worry about that! right? good luck!!

Bluegoose: Thank you so much! I see that I'm not the only one that was worried about that. I "knew" that it had to be okay or the dr would say that sex would not be possible ever again, it's just hard to convince yourself that it's okay. It helps to hear from someone else who had the same concerns!
