Had TAH and ovaries removed yesterday (1/26) at 11am

...and feeling pretty amazing! Had a spinal followed by general anaesthetic and woke up without no nausea and without any pain for a couple of hours after. I had been suffering from very very heavy and painful periods and severe pmt and after a long road of trying different things we agreed a hysterectomy and ovary removal would give me back a quality of life.

The op went well and the surgeon said afterwards that he found a tangerine sized endometriosis on one ovary and a lime sized one on the other that we didn't realise beforehand were there. As I have been having zoladex injections for 4 months apparently they will have shrunk somewhat too! No wonder the pain was always so bad!!

24 hours later and I have had my drip, catheter and morphine driver removed. I am on paracetamol, ibuprofen, tramadol and antibiotics and have been sitting in the chair and pottering around the room.

My wee really stings though, hoping this will settle down soon? And the physio came this morning to show me how to log roll out of bed. It was excruciating so I have reverted back to doing it my way.

The wound is a bit sore but no worse than my old period pains and apart from being tired I feel great.

My only question is what should I be doing about now? The nursing staff only come in once every 2 hours or so as they are very understaffed and I'm not sure really what I should or not be doing.

Hugs to all my other hystersysters!! J x

Congrats! Sounds like you're on the way to healing nicely. I agree on the tramadol too, big help on staying pain-free :-)

Now the challenge is to take it easy and rest as much as you can, even if you're feeling like you can bounce back immediately now.

Walking was encouraged by my doc. She also advised me to try to (gently) turn to my sides when lying in bed, to help internal organs settle back and help pass gas out. Also she was a stickler for keeping a straight posture when I walk, instead of hunched over trying to "protect" my incision, because it could become a habit down the road.

I've been working for close to 20 years with short holidays only in between so I took advantage of the first week post-op to sleep as much as I can :-)

Wishing you continued well-being and enjoy!

Take it easy! Do nothing but take short walks around the nurses station. Welcome to the other side by the way!

Peeing felt weird for me for about a week but after that it'll be normal.

Happy healing! And remember to rest.
