Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 13, 2015
Laparoscopic hysterectomy scheduled for 12\16... HPV and CIN 111 / carcinoma in situ - several LEEP & cone biopsies. Choose to do the hysterectomy as preventative measure - DR says not enough cervix left to do more biopsies if needed. Is everyone having procedures done day surgery ??

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 13, 2015
Scheduled for TVH on 12/18. At first there was the suspection of cancer after a vaginal ultrasound, I told ob to schedule the surgery. Cancer was ruled out after biopsy and mri. But she still want to move forward and remove fibroids and uterus. Went back last week for consultation with my husband. Got results of MRI-see 3 fibroids the largest is 6cm and one is pressing my bladder, everything else is normal, but now she want to remove everything except ovaries. "Why...so you want get cancer... but tests are negative for such". Granted I do have heavy painful and 8-10 day long periods which has caused anemia. Now on supplements which as brought my level back up. The conversation about this with my ob started in September now in Dec. full hysterectomy is looming. Just the thougt of missing healthy organs terrifies me. Soooo nervous, still more questions than answers. Believing I will call tomorrow and cancel. I am 52.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 13, 2015
I will be having a Davinci surgery and will keep my ovaries. I am ready for all of this to be done, but really concerned about recovery and being ready for Christmas (of all things!). I feel almost selfish for having surgery. I have had heavy irregular periods my entire life, and have a family history of fibroids. My grandmother had a total hysterectomy at 39. My cousin had ablation around age 37. My mother just took birth control for several years until they said she should just try to ride it out. My doctor said that ablation would not be as effective after looking inside my uterus.
SO, I was ready for this. I have actually been pursuing it for about 10 years. Watching the fibroids, taking birth control pills, having procedures. Now it is time, and I feel like I haven't earned it. Isn't that crazy? I almost feel like I want surgery so I can have a reason to relax and take care of myself! I was really upset when the doctor said I would be home that night...I wanted to stay in the hospital!
Am I crazy? I think the reality is just setting in.....
Oh, and I'm really afraid. So here is the surgery that I have wanted, and now I am afraid to have it. What if I have serious complications because of a sugery that would just make my life easier. I can keep going like I am now, but I feel tied to the bathroom many days of the month....that is better than painful complications....I hope the days pass quickly and I can be on the other side!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 13, 2015
Just wanted to give everyone some encouragement. I had my DaVinci total hysterectomy on December 7th, took everything but my ovaries. I have been dealing with abnormal paps, pre-cancerous with colposcopies and cone biopsies the last 5 years. Recently diagnosed with HPV 16 as a bonus. Surgery revealed a large fibroid the size of my uterus which helps explain my awful periods with pain and horrible bleeding.
I totally understand everyone's anxiety and nervousness pre-surgery. It's a big deal and a major surgery and decision. Everyone is entitled to these feelings.
In my groups post-op forums the biggest issues seem to be:
-lack of sleep
-lack of BM
-nausea
-pain
You will each have your own story. I can say I've struggled with nausea from pain meds (I'm a lightweight). I've found taking a 1/2 pain pill with nausea med does the trick. My tolerance for being up is limited. I find lying more flat is more comfortable. I set an alarm on my phone every hour to force myself to walk laps around my house. I'm also very grateful that I bought 10-15 cans of soup and some crackers cause I'm not exactly feeling like eating much. I have chronic constipation issues and started taking dose of miralax everyday since about a week prior to surgery. I also bought extra strength Gas-X... As you'll be full of gas that you'll need to burp and "pass"!
Just know you are not alone and everyday does get better! The first two days of pain were the worst for me but have improved a ton!! Take it easy ladies and don't try to rush your recovery. It's going to take your body time.... Your body will decide how much as we are all different!
I wish you peace!!! And send huge hugs!!!
Kelly

Wow! We are sort of in the same boat, but my fibroids are not nearly as large. I am thankful for your post because I am feeling like I should just suck it up and put up with the heavy bleeding and everything it brings with it! I am 45 and have struggled since a teen with heavy periods and cramps. I do believe we can have am improved quality of life, and I try to think of the lack of worry about the "surprises". I'll enjoy an entire summer of swimming with my 6 year old son! What might you enjoy more once you are recovered?
Thanks for your post, hang in there!

Your post helps so much! I am supposed to be making my sub plans right now. I teach Kindergarten (so lucky because there is a bathroom in my room!) I thought I would join the forum, and now I'm just reading and crying. I think I needed the time to myself to get ready....thanks!

Let's be sure to tell everyone how it goes after we are done. I have been looking for posts that talk about Davinci as I am so worried....hard to find, so I am going to try to tell folks how it goes. I have felt sort of alone with many co-workers having vaginal hysterectomy. Can't seem to find anyone who has had Davinci!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 13, 2015
Hi! My name is Mindy, I'm 40, and am having an LAVH Wednesday. Whether or not I get to keep my ovaries is to be determined.
I have 2 boys, 17 and 13, and after 25 years of endometriosis, dysfunctional uterus, abnormal bleeding, pain, heavy periods, several d&cs, laparoscopic surgeries, uterine vivisections and ablations, the only thing I feel is READY. The house is clean, laundry is done, shopping is done, we've prepped a few meals, hubby has time off work and he's been through surgeries with me in the past and is awesome.
I've had numerous surgeries, so I really have no worries or questions about this one. At all. I do fine under anesthesia, I don't have a hard time with pain killers. I like my doctor and I trust my hospital.
My only concern is my post-op sex life. Will it hurt? What about vaginal dryness? What about orgasms? Please, may it still be good!
Oh, and I'm rather hopeful I heal well and fast enough to get some cross country skiing and sledding in this winter - which is my favorite season!

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 13, 2015
Hi, my name is Jenn! My LAVH is scheduled for Wednesday, the 16th. I feel odd, as I have never had any issues with my period or lady parts. I started getting cluster migraines at the beginning of November and after many doctors appointments I ended up at OBGYN last Friday and found out I have thickening of the uterus. Apparently one of the many side effects of excess estrogen. Migraines being another. He scheduled my hysterectomy ASAP due to excess estrogen is the first stage in uterine cancer and my mother passed pretty young of Leiomyosarcoma (uterine). So apparently I have a ticking time bomb in my gut. I'm not sure how I feel as this is coming on at me pretty fast. Sad at times because of my lack of making more babies, but I am blessed with two sons already. But a sense of relief as my biggest fear is having my kids watch me be sick like my mother was. I am 38 and a farmers wife from SD. I am excited to be feeling good again though.
