Muscles cramping/tightening beneath incisions

I'm at 3 weeks now. I'm having a rough couple of days. I've had some really decent days between day 2 through week 2. I'm not liking the start of week 3 at all. I'm having some pain but a lot of muscle pulling/tightening. I keep having to remind myself to relax my stomach muscles (especially near the incision areas) and not use them. The minute I forget and bend down without preparing to really relax it gets tight and pulls. Even just sitting and turning one way or the other gives such a cramping pull it's starting to wear on me. Is this happening to anyone else? Is this a normal healing process? I have no fever and no redness. The skin around the incisions is healing very well but it's the muscles beneath them that have been giving me grief for two days now.

I have muscle relaxers PRN for prior shoulder issues and I'm wondering if this will help at all with the tightening/cramping up? I am drinking enough fluids, taking IBU's and all the proper BM assistance OTC meds. I'm walking enough but slowly because if I move fast my stomach tightens around the incisions and cramps up.

A heating pad is helping to relax and soothe those muscles but I can't wear that 24/7.

Beaubella -

I am sorry to hear you are having these issues.

I had muscle triggers in my abdominal muscles and they could cause a lot of pain. I would suggest talking to your Dr. about them, at some point maybe he / she would recommend massage or physical therapy at some point.

Re: Muscles cramping/tightening beneath incisions

Thank you for the reply =) I've made it through another week and for the most part the muscle cramps have gone away. I used the heating pad and my PRN's to help on occasion.
I see my Dr in two weeks time for my 6 week check and will mention this to him as well. I did have to call him Monday just before my 4 week mark because I had two pinky size clots in the AM when I woke. The nurse explained it was the vaginal cuff stitches dissolving and a bit of blood was pooling there as I slept. I had no other blood, discharge or fever just two pinky size clots. She assured me it was normal and I was relieved.
I start back to work tomorrow and am a bit nervous but I think it will go well =)

Great to hear that things are getting better.

Just expect to be tired on the first few days back since you are ramping up your activity level.

Re: Muscles cramping/tightening beneath incisions

I am in week 3 and have that abdominal pinching too, the incision is so sore and sitting down makes it worse, its like pinching, feels like its going to split open but its not. I dont know How I will ever go back to work if I cant sit up. walking is fine but sitting hurts the belly
