Back pain

Hello hystersisters,
Had laproscopic hysterectomy on December 27th and was home in my own bed on December 28th. I had my cervix and uterus removed. I have had trouble with gas and back pain. Has anyone found an answer to the back pain mystery? My doctor said that it could have to do with the position of my body during surgery. Anyone else have any information?

Re: Back pain

I was told the same thing. You are positioned at an angle with your legs in up, which can cause pressure on your back. I used a heating pad for a few days to relieve the pain (which also helped relieve the gas pain as well).

Re: Back pain

I was in the castle for three days. While I was waiting to be discharged, I almost asked a nurse if it was possible that I was having some kind of kidney problem, because both sides of my back, above my kidneys, were relentlessly aching. I finally realized that it was a combination of sleeping in that hospital bed and learning to use my arms more to move myself around... my body wasn't happy about any of it.

My back did feel better after a few days at home - especially when I was finally able to sleep in my own bed in a position that is naturally comfortable to me.

I also, for a couple of days, used a shiatsu massage machine (with heat) that has helped in the past with my herniated discs. Just try to make sure that whether you are sitting or lying down, you are supporting your back and giving your back a chance to recover. Good luck!
