Weight Gain and Tired

Good Morning Sisters - I am curious about something. Has anyone noticed a significant weight gain with fibroids. Weight that just doesn't come off? Also, being tired and run down all the time? For the past couple of years I have been blowing it off assuming it was a 40's thing happening to me. LOL

I am scheduled for TVH on December 17th.

I love this website and everyone has been so open and honest as to what to expect. You are great group of women! I hope I can do the same for others along the way. Angel Hugs and Kisses to all. Mary

Weight Gain and Tired

Hi Mary,

It may be changing hormones. Not that you are but some women start perimenopause early and it can last for years. Some women start in their 30's. Anyway it could be a matter of getting hormones adjusted. There are some great books on the topic especially "What your Dr may not tell you about Perimenopause" and "What your Dr may not tell you about Menopause." Also Christiane Northrup has some good things to say about this in ehr books too.

You may also want to find a compounding pharmacy and get a consult. They can tell you by various methods if you need certain hormones or other supplements.

I'm not a Dr or anything but I hope this helps.

Betsy

no weight gain, but fatigue yes

my theory on the fatigue, (this is entirely non-expert, non-medical, just speculation on my part) is that fibroids, adeno, cysts and all those other gynecological ills mess subtly with our endocrine systems. Fibroids are estrogen dependent suckers, right? So does the stress that goes with chronic pain and just dealing with the gyn problems. Stress attacks the adrenal glands, that fight or flight response.

My hope is getting rid of the cause of the problem, and doing the healing work needed, my energy will return to normal. Maybe a few months of living where I am not having to plan my life around my menstrual cycle and dreading that 10 days a month where I feel like a sub-human will be a good thing.

One thing I am going to insist on before the end of the year is having my serum hormone levels checked again, including thyroid function.

Another thing to think about with heavy periods that go along with fibroids is anemia. How long since your hemocrit was checked?

I did see an article awhile back that linked endometrosis with auto-immune issues like fibromyalgia. The article didn't go into depth, but it made sense to me.

My naturopath put me on an complex that supports the adrenal glands and I felt better immediately. She said I had adrenal depletion from long-term stress and chronic pain. Who knows, huh? It's working so I am not knocking it.

Weight Gain

Dear Angels4ever,

Ditto on the weight gain and fibroids.....like a gain of about 12 pounds in the past year....went from a size 6 to 8 or 10...no more wearing my shirts tucked in either....But I am more sedintary due to heavy periods and anemia....no energy and certainly won't go to the gym with the fear of a "flood" while I am on the treadmill...seemed like everytime I planned to get back to my exercising I would get my period and it was a heavy one. The weight is more in the mid section of my body this time ....I pray that once I am recovered I will be back to walking and exercising. The weather here in SC will be nice and cool for walks outside....can't handle walking in heat and humidity......

All you LIW are in my thoughts and prayers.....three weeks from today for me!! And thanks to all the punctured princesses for all your help.....

lilly
