Painful intercourse 12 weeks after total hysterectomy

It's been 12 weeks since my total hysterectomy - tried to have intercourse last weekend - it's super painful and it feels like something is in the way - my partner can feel it also - It feels like a tampon inserted incorrectly in my vagina all the time - what's going on? I don't have dryness and never had problems prior to the surgery - thank you
