Week 4 postop constipation

I am at week 4 post op and have had a so far awesome recovery. Soreness off and on but nothing serious. I am 26 and have had my uterus and cervix removed leaving ovaries. My issue at hand is constipation. I have taken stool softeners and laxatives but no successful emptying. I had a small unfulfilling bm this morning but have suffered all day with abdominal bloating back aches and the typical feeling of needing to have a major bm but nothing happens. Please help im sooo over this uncomfortable feeling

Re: Week 4 postop constipation

Hello sister.
I have been having bowel issues also as many others are along with us.
The most important thing is fluids. You must must must drink alot of Water.
You also should be taking mini walks. Eating certain foods helps. Prunes, steamed veggies.
Cut back on cheese if you are currently eating any.
Take your stool softeners every day.
If you are still taking pain meds, that may be another cause of constipation.
I know this is frustrating. My bowels are still mad at me too. Good luck!

Re: Week 4 postop constipation

Tidkwia posted good things - definately DRINK LOTS OF WATER and take some short walks. Also watch what foods you are eating. Make sure you are getting fiber in foods like: pears, apples, oranges, prunes, etc. Go online and do a bit of research and see what foods you might like. Even if your diet gets a little bland and boring, you'll be happy you kept eating high fiber foods.

Good luck : )

To relieve your bloating, gas, constipation and get things moving again try Warming up 4-6 oz of Water with 1-2 oz of fresh squeezed lemon.

Re: Week 4 postop constipation

Hi. I am 6 Wk post op From my LAVH. Before my surgery only would only have a BM 2x a week. I thought after my surgery that I was going to be constipated forever. I was going through every symptom you are experiencing now. My surgeon told me to take a dose of Citrucel and repeat it for a couple days. She said I probably had an increase of air in my intestines. She said that Citrucel forms a gel around the air in your intestines making it easy for you to pass. Our digested food cannot get around the built up air in our intestines and the end result, no BM. Low and behold on the 2nd day I went. Though a little painful I went A LOT. I've been going 1x a day since then. Good luck. Keep us posted.
