Re: Vaginal dilators
What greyown said. The outcome's going to depend on why you were using the dilator in the first place. I had vaginal brachytherapy (internal radiation) and left to its own devices, my vagina would tend to close up. This would make it difficult for my oncologists to check for signs of a cancer recurrence. So I use a dilator to prevent this. It's easy to use and achieves the required results, i.e., vagina stays open. Mine was given to me by my radiation oncologist after I finished treatment. It's nothing fancy, sort of like a candle with a rounded end or maybe a giant-sized tampon.
Most of the dilators on Amazon seem to come in sets? I've also heard of women who have vaginismus buying dilators in sets so that they can start with the smallest and gradually work their way up. But if you're just trying to maintain the width you've already got, as I am, then you don't need a set. It all depends on what you're trying to achieve.
