Thyroid and hysterectomy

I am not sure this is the place for this post but I am noticing that a great deal of us have thyroid issues as well. I have 3 thyroid nodules that were found two years ago but blood tests all come back "within the range of normal". Wondering what the correlation is, if any. I will definately be doing some research in my spare time while recovering.

Re: Thyroid and hysterectomy

Wow, I never noticed that. I would be interested in what you find. I also have had nodules being "watched" over the past 4-5 years and last year before this all started they finally biopsied one and all was fine. I think I am now over due for a check in endocrinologist, but with everything going on this year with gyno I just couldn't face any more specialist appts and tests.

Thyroid and hysterectomy

Wow... I had hyperthyroid 4 years ago and radioactive iodine to get rid of my thyroid. Now I'm hypothyroid and on Synthroid for life. I started having prolapse issues last year and needed TAH and bladder repair. Only 33 years young 😒

I have been hypothyroid since high school and over the past two years have been bumped up from 75mg to 125mg of levothyroxin.

Re: Thyroid and hysterectomy

I've got subclinical hypothyroidism and have been on Synthroid for the past decade or so. I get annual TSH tests and every few years, my dosage has to be bumped up a bit. I'm currently at 112 mcg.

What's kind of interesting - at least to me :-) - was in that in Nov 2012, my latest test results suggested that the dosage needed to be bumped up again. I thought that was a bit off because the last bump-up had been only a year earlier, but whatever, my GP wrote me a new script. Then a month later, I experienced some post-menopausal bleeding. It turned out that I had endometrial cancer.

Endometrial cancer is estrogen fed, so I've wondered since then if the unexpected drop in my thyroid levels had to do with some sort of estrogen/thyroid interaction. Was it in fact an early warning symptom of the cancer? However, I've never found anything in the medical literature that says anything definite on this topic.

All interesting stuff for sure! I've been post menopausal taking bio identical estrogen and progesterone...once I was dx with polyps and ovarian cyst they told me to stop estrogen till post surgery...I wonder if estrogen caused my issues?? I am a little concerned about estrogen now that everything's gone but the hot flashes, night sweats are terrible!

SSRIs, usually used to treat depression, are often effective for hot flashes and night sweats. If you're in the States, there's one called Brisdelle that specifically intended for this purpose. It was approved by the US FDA a year or so ago.
