Embolization

Does anybody know anyone who has had an embolization? I know it is a new treatment so there probably aren' t a whole lot of statistics but my only options are a partial hysterectomy or I may like to see if I am eligible for an embolization.

Embolization

Hi Robin,

I was not a good candidate for a UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolizaton) because my fibroids were too large.

Here is a link I found:

http://mywebmd.com/hw/uterine_fibroids/tv6671.asp

I can suggest going on the Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives forum board. Go to "search this forum" and type in embolization. Embolization forums will come up for you.

Best wishes,

Mary

Embolization

I have fibroids and am looking into the Uterine Fibroid Embolization Procedure.

Been reading lots on the internet and some here.

If you find out anything good (or bad) about it let us know.

TIA

Broids return after a few years

There are a few posts on this site stating that the broids come back a few years following an embolization. That bothers me. I guess you have to decide if you are ok with the possibility of having to go and do the entire procedure again.

Embolization

Yes, I read some of those too.
But others have been happy with it.

I don't know what your situation is but I would seriously look into other options before having a hysterectomy.

I am 47 and probably have had fibroids for a number of yrs although I was only diagnosed with them in the summer of 2002 while in the hospital for a blood transfusion due to severe anemia.

I knew the anemia was caused by my heavy, prolonged, sometimes gushing, painful periods, but didn't know I had fibroids.
I avoided doctors for yrs.
I also have had the frequent, urgent urination problem for a number of yrs.
I'm at a point were I can't leave home for a few days each month during my period.

Now in the past 2 yrs three different Gynos have recommended a Hyste.
NOT One has mentioned the Embolization. I learned about that procedure on my own.

Yes, I do want eliminate the symptoms and improve my quality of life, but I feel at this point I'm not ready for a hyste.

Since most Gynos don't offer the UFE, they never mention it.
I'm going to try and talk to the specialist in the near future about the procedure and decide.

In the mean time I'm going to read as much as I can about it.

Good luck to you too.

Embolization

Couldn't do embolization because of the size of my fibroid. Know someone who has tried myeomectomy and embolization. Neither worked for long and she is now continuing a hysterectomy. If you're young, check out both of these procedures. Your doctor should be able to fill you in on the pros and cons.
