13 wks post op reality kicking in
Hi, I haven't posted for quite a while as things have been going pretty good. Went back to work after 6 wks and running again at 7wks but suddenly I am feeling overwhelmed with everything, it seems that once I went back to work I had to be back to normal which wasn't the case.
I have times where I am tired with working, keeping the home and also my son is getting married in 4 wks and it has been a lot of arranging and we have been building an extension to his home which has been pretty stressful!!
My DH works, is doing the building work and on top of it all is doing a teacher training course, so he is tired and stressed. So time together is minimal and it feels that my hysterecomy is a thing of the past but for me I still think about it and still have tearful moments and mood swings, but to cap it all I have had a bout of sore throats a cough and vaginal thrush! yuk!
Has anyone else fallen fowl to the exhausting reality which is post - post hysterectomy, I call it that because it is almost like jumping back on to a ferris wheel at full speed and I so need to get off!!
Anyway its just a busy time and won't be forever and I just needed to vent thanks for listening

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
Yep and unfortunately when we hear things like 2 weeks or 6 weeks or 8 weeks recovery we thing "healed and back to normal" Nope that initial period is only initial recovery. The next weeks going out to 6 or 12 months is where full long term healing comes into play. I am a little over 1 week away from 6 weeks post op and I am just starting to feel like I"m getting back to normal. There has been so much going on with me (some challenges from surgical menopause, emotional trauma of unexpected surgery, pelvic pain, etc.), challenges of thinking I was going to lose my job, my father-in-law being ill and dying on my birthday it all adds up. Really I just am starting to feel like I'm turning the corner. Yesterday my DH and I took some time and just hung out, did a few things around town and met up with some friends and it was just what we needed (made us realize we need a vacation) and intimacy was the best it's been since right before my surgery in November.
Hugs and Prayers

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
I think 'normal' is a relative term, ha! I had my LSH on Feb 24th, followed by fistula, tests, procedures, and finally repair surgery 4/22. I thought I was doing fine through all of this until this past week. Physically I am doing well, but emotionally it is just catching up to me. I think this is not unusual. I feel like from the outside most people look at me as being 'back to normal', but on the inside I go back and forth.
Ceepha, you have a LOT going on! There's certainly good reason for you to feel exhausted or overwhelmed. With so much going on it may be hard for you to take extra care of yourself or get the rest and support you need. But you're not alone; sending warm thoughts your way.

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
After my 6 week post-op appointment, I tried to get back to what was formerly my "normal routine". I tried, really, I tried! However, I found myself running out of steam pretty quickly. Now, I am 10+ weeks post-op, and it's only been the last 3-4 days that I can truly say I am starting to feel better. I was still having pains in my tummy when I was doing my daily activities. They were stinging, burning little pains. Not constant, but..............still annoying. I would suddenly stop and press my hand into my tummy, and DH would give me the funniest of looks. He couldn't believe I was still feeling something after 10 weeks!
My friend has returned from her trip to Texas, and is ready to once again go golfing. I would love to go, and am so looking forward to it, but at the same time, I am a little worried too. I am not sure I will be able to walk around 18 holes. I have a hard enough time trying to clean my house without having to sit down and rest!

Ceepha,
It sounds as if you truly have jumped back on the ferris wheel. Keep in mind that you still need time for yourself - even after you consider yourself fully healed - and the world still manages to go on even if we can't make things as perfect as we might like. Best wishes to you and your family on your son's upcoming wedding - that certainly is a milestone well worth enjoying.

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
I had my TAH the day after you, I recovered really well . In fact I was delighted, happy, and very positive about my recovery.
But I too am finding it really hard at the moment, my family and friends have been great but definately feel its in the past now.
At my 5 week apointment my lovely Consultant Surgeon released me for everything, her advice was if I felt like it, try it. That was great, I did the gym, sex, shopping etc, and at 8 weeks we went to Europe for a family holiday.
But once we got home it was back to normal, I took over, doing everything in the house and garden again, plus my teenage son has autism and requires one to one care.
I think at nine weeks it was too much to soon I got really down . Not sure if PMT or my ovaries not fully working yet
I was pretty much pain free from 4 weeks, but started having prickly/burning pains and a sore ache in my right side and back.
My family and friends think its all in the past - I look really well, even my GP. thinks that at 12 weeks I am fully recovered, and dismisses my PMT - I choose to keep my ovaries
The thing is I think about it everyday, this was such a big thing for me, I may look well, but the truth is I don't really recognise myself, I have lost 30 pounds, and as my womb was size of a 5 month pregnancy, I have gone down 3 dress sizes in 3 months.
Everyday I am so glad I had my surgery but its been a life changing event and I feel I need longer to recover both from the surgery and emotionally.
So yes regardless of what family, friends and GP says, I am still recovering at 3 months.
I hope we both feel better soon.
Just noticed we are both in the UK and think that all the rain is making me feel worse

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
It can definitely be a challenge to remember we're not fully up to speed, especially when no one else can really see it! I have co-workers who seem shocked when I mention nerve pain, and since I was heavier to begin with they don't fully realize all the swelling that's there; it's even more prominent to me at the end of my work week.
Anyway, if you can, make some time to slow down. You sound like you are running all the time! I think I'd probably feel completely exhausted if I were in your shoes.

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
I Feel the same way sometimes. I had TAH/BSO and I don't feel like the same person I was before the surgery. I've changed, my family don't get it they just look at me like i'm crazy.
I'm happy I had the surgery no more of that pain. I need to get the hormones on track so I can move on without feeling so overwhelmed. My DH can't understand that I still don't have my energy back and that I should be able to do "ALL" of MY housework and take care of MY children. He said he did it for 8 weeks and now it's my turn.
Sorry ladies, I am having a lot of overwhelming feeling that the world is moving to fast and I'm not.
take care

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
Sometimes I see these old movies where people go away for months to recover and rest after a major event in their lives and then I think how everyone now is expected to get better and get back to 'normal' as fast as possible. As if, if your stitches are healed you must be ok. It seems something is being overlooked.

Re: 13 wks post op reality kicking in
Hi All, thank you so much for your replies is makes me feel better that I am not alone.
I failed to mention in amongst the mayhem of the pending wedding, and the fact that I am a grandmother to 2 gorgeous grandchildren, which can be tiring - I'm only 43 but feel 93 at the moment - my daughter had a terrible accident she was playing football at the beach (She is 20 but loves football) she kicked a rock which was under the ball and broke her big toe in half yuk yuk yuk! well she has had 2 operations and was in hospital for most of the week and is now on crutches, they have saved her toe but it was rather traumatic, so life is just crazy!!
My DH have booked a week in Portugal after our sons wedding which we soooooo need.
Once again thanks for listening and making me feel that I'm not alone.
One question - do any of you feel different emotionally now as I feel I do, I get angry and upset and quite down easily I suppose this will settle down, I also don't always want company as making an effort seems so hard, which isn't like me at all
Happy healing sisters feels at times like a long road but in the grand scheme of things its just a 'blip'.
Luv Ceepha x
