TAH Day 4 post hysterectomy: painful, loose BMs

Well I made it through surgery and now I'm home!!!!! They removed my uterus and left both ovaries. I've got a pretty ugly incision but I'm hoping it heals nicely.

The pain is tolerable with meds but the bowel movements are somewhat painful and very loose. This worries me so i hope someone can give me some advice.

If your bowel movements are loose to the point of being diarrhetic, this may be due to the antibiotics you were given in the hospital. You need to restock the "good" bacteria in your guts. Eat plain yogurt with active cultures or take probiotic capsules. I had diarrhea when I got home from the hospital and yogurt fixed it in two days.

My opinion - don't worry too much about loose bowels. Bowel movements are painful due to all the "remodeling" and you do not want them to be at all hard. I do second the pro-biotic or yogurt suggestion. It gets better, however I am four weeks post and I am still very gentle when it's time to "go".
