Socalled 'bioidentical' or natural hormones. They saved my sanity 15years ago when trying to administer our business. Don't know if or for how long I want to keep them going. Had total abdominal hysterectomy 7 days ago. So no HRT for over 3 weeks, and none of the usual symptoms have returned. Already post menopausal, so is there a point in continuing??

Started on Estradiol 0.5 mg 1a day. I'm 51 and was not in pre-menopause at all. So the BSO sent me for a loop, I was not on HRT until 3 weeks after the surgery we should have started it right away!!!

Re: Poll: If you take prescription HRT, what kind do you take?

Three weeks after hysterectomy, the menopause symptoms are so intense that I have to take HRT. Should have taken it immediately after surgery. I am taking 2.5mg of Estrogel daily. I apply one pump of gel at each arm every night before I sleep. Had no negative side effects and I feel minimal hot flashes thereafter. Was told to continue taking for at least a full year before slowly weaning off. It costs about $60 per month an luckily insurance covers all costs.

I am one day post-BSO and am on the Minivelle 0.1 mg patch. I am 34 years old and so far have not had any menopausal symptoms. Not sure if this is normal to "balance" right away - wondering if it is possible that I still have some estrogen from my ovaries since they were just removed yesterday. Only time will tell I guess...
