Question about being sick (kids mentioned)

For some reason since my pre op appointment things are going to crap . my daughter came home sick from school with a fever and bad cough so since my area is highly contagious with the H1N1 i thought she needed to be seen , well the dr said she had ,strep although the test was not positive . she started on meds that night i asked her dr , if i was to get that if it would stall my surgery she said no . well the next day i started sneezing and had a scratchy throat well now my nose is running away im thinking that when i call the pre op nurse about it she will make me reshedule do any of you know if they can still do the surgery if u have a bit of a cold thats what it seems to be with me no fever nothing else just a bit of sneezing and nose running . ?

Re: Question about being sick (kids mentioned)

If you have a cold, with any kind of congestion or drainage, they may cancel you. It would be risky due to complications with breathing. They will definately cancel you if you have a temperature. It is better to be safe than sorry. I got cancelled due to a temperature in pre-op, my temperature was 101., and I didn't really feel sick. The doctor said it was too risky, so I was cancelled.

I would call you PCP, and let them know that you are scheduled for surgery, and see if they can give you an antibiotic, or see if they want to see you.

Good luck, and God bless.

Hopefully keep us posted. Drink alot sof fluids, to flush your system. I cleaned like a "mad women." I actually carry a bottle of alcohol in my purse to spray on my hands, my steering wheel, the toilet seat at public restrooms, and anything else that is out there in the dirty world.
I was so worried about getting sick before surgery.

I would check with your doc it may even be a sinus allergyy thing this time of year is really bad for that. I am ocd about germs any ways but right before my surgery and still right now I have been even worse because now is not the time that I want to be sick.

It is not advised to take medication so close to your surgery without talking with your doctor first. Antibiotics (like penicillin) work on infections, not viruses -- and the common cold and flu are usually viral in nature. Taking an antibiotic for a virus is not going to make it better.

The best thing for you to do right now is get as much as possible and drink plenty of fluids, but any meds you take now really should be cleared by the first. I hope you feel better soon.
