Insensitive Doctor Office (pregnancy mentioned)
I need to vent. I am getting a hysterectomy, and I have to go to the doctors office for various appointments. I find it particularily annoying that I have to go to the same office as the pregnant patients.
Yesterday was really bad. They office staff did not bother to tell me the doctor was running over 40 minutes late. After 20 minutes, I ask the office person how much longer is the wait. She said oh he's going to be at least another 20 minutes. Are you kidding me? Am I supposed to just hang out with the three pregnant patients while waiting? Am I the only one not ok with this?
I am not having any more kids and had a tubal several years ago. My child bearing days are long gone (thank God); however, I still find it difficult to be in the waiting room with the pregnant patients especially for an extended period of time.
I feel better getting this off my chest. I know it won't change how Ob/Gyn run their offices......

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
That would have been nice if they told you that they were running that late. I think that would have been common courtesy. Sometimes we just need to vent.

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
I love my GYN surgeon. But he was always running late. And I would have to wait in the waiting room with all the preggos. It made me sad, particularly when my visit was regarding cervical dysplasia (I may have cancer, but you ladies all get a baby), when my cervix scarred shut after treatment and my period couldn't get through, and then when I was making the very difficult and unwelcome decision of a hysterectomy. I also didn't like it when I was immediately post op and went to the office with complications. It made me feel really sad. Footnote: after I miscarried my baby I also had to wait with the preggos. That was horrible.

That would be hard you must have been felt really uncomfortable. I am sorry you had to go through that.

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
Amazingly, I haven't had to wait with pregnant ladies until my last visit (getting the results from my D & C). I'm sure I was just lucky the rest of the time, as there are several docs (as usual) in the office. I can understand though why you felt uncomfortable -- I would have too. Sometimes they just don't think of that kind of thing.

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
Its funny how you notice these things after surgery. I guess its an in your face knowledge of your own fertility. Since my Dr is an OB/Gyn I have to expect that he will have OB patients. It didn't bother me that they were there but I guess I noticed more than usual. These emotions after hyster are something else cause I don't even want any more kids.

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
I'm loving my Dr. She's did the OB part for several years but about 7 years ago she went Gyn only!
No waiting with expectant moms. It's nice that I don't have to worry about my Dr. being called away for a delivery and delaying or canceling an appointment. I had that happen with a different OB/GYN a long time ago.
Venting is good for you--helps prevent ulcers-- (IMO)

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
I understand how you feel. I didn't notice the problem in my gynecologist's office, but when I went to my gynecological oncologist's office I must have seen 20+ pregnant women per visit.
I couldn't understand why the gynecological oncologists were in the same place as the women's clinic. There were pregnant women everywhere waiting for appointments with all of the doctors. Why would they subject women with gynecological cancers to all of the glowing pregnant women?
I don't understand why the oncologists are not all grouped somewhere together away from the other specialties.
Sorry for the insensitivity. I know how much that can hurt.

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
{{hugs}} to all you ladies! I have felt the very same way when visiting my gyn/ob's over the years. And I've seen 13 of them! Sbergeron00: I am so jealous that you have just the "GYN" I've looked for one for years so I wouldn't have to deal with the preggo's and hordes of children they always seem to have with them. At the very least they need to have seperate waiting rooms.

Re: Insensitive Doctor Office
I work for an OBGYN and sometimes they run late. They aren't always delivering babies. Sometimes they have emergencies to attent to. Honestly I would just ge glad to have a doctor. I know when I book patients with fertility issuess or miscarriages I try to have the ob's out of the office but it doesn't always work that way. Specialists are hard to get into at least in Canada and sometimes the waiting list is over a year for the good obgyns. Just be patient! Honestly the doctor and staff don't want to be behind we like things to run smoothly. But in the world of medicine anything can happen!
