Bowel prep questions

again
Im reading all these post and I had my pre op yesterday and my doctor did not tell me anything about a BP. Did not give me orders about a diet except the normal nothing to eat or drink after mid night. A friend of mine said her first time to the bathroom after her TAH she thought she was giving birth again, this was 10 years ago and she had appendex out 4 days later....so maybe that was her problem. All i was told was to show up......im a little nervous about this BP thing.....should i just leave it alone??? You sisters are awesome for putting up with me and i may post a few more before my 6/23 date. thanks again.....

Re: Bp ??????

Some Drs do not require a PB or a Liquid diet.
So I wouldnt do a BP if its not required. You could do a liquid/clear diet on your own the day before surgery...Or just steer clear of some heavier foods and no dairy.

Re: Bp ??????

I'm hoping my dr. doesn't require the bowel prep either but regardless, I'm going to do the low fiber/low residue diet for the 2 days prior to the surgery. I'm hoping it'll make things easier on the other side.

Re: Bp ??????

Not all doctors order a bowel prep or diet restrictions. If your doctor has not ordered a prep for you or given you specific diet instructions, just eat normally and do not do a prep. If you do a prep or limit your diet unnecessarily, you could dehydrate yourself which could lead to your surgery being canceled.

For my hysterectomy, I did not do a bowel prep and my only restriction was the same as yours, no eating or drinking after midnight. I did not have any bowel issues at all following surgery!

Best wishes to you!
