Last Step Before Hysterectomy Complete

Had my pre op appointment this morning. Definitely went better than last weeks biopsy. I rembered to ask about the ovaries and I will be keeping them unless he thinks there is a problem or they look unhealthy. He said uterus is very thick with some small fibroids so its good we are taking it out. I am nervous but really wanting to hurry up and get this over with. The funny thing is its not so much the surgery, it the being put to sleep that makes me nervous.

I'm glad it went well!

Big hugs to you! Being under general anesthesia is scary - and definitely carries a certain risk. Having a scheduled, non-emergent surgery makes it so much better for everyone.

Here is hoping your surgery goes exactly as planned, completely routine, and that you start healing!

I was also scared about going under general anaesthesia, especially since this would be my first time, but as I quickly learned, the process is completely safe. Your anaesthesiologist is a trained professional, whose main priority is to ensure your safety and comfort, and your pre-op testing should reflect this. And once you're asleep, he'll be monitoring you very closely, to make sure everything's okay. So just take a few deep breaths, and before you know it, it will be all over. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!

Re: Last Step Before Hysterectomy Complete

Before my hysterectomy I had 2 D&C's under general anaesthetic, so I had 3 surgeries in total.

I had no anxiety about being under anaesthesia - any problems would be picked up in your pre-op. (Turned out I had a heart murmur, but that's another story!).

It's a bit weird I know, but I loved the feeling of getting drowsy and am probably the only person ever who looked forward to an anaesthetic!!
