Bowel Prep with Fleet?

Hi everyone!

I'm scheduled for TAH including the cervix for next Wednesday. I'm scared to the point of random crying jags, but as I sit here going through my period and cramps, I can't WAIT to never experience this again!

I had a pre-op appointment with my doctor today and she said that she wants me to do a bowel prep enema, and to check the website (her practice has a website detailing bowel preps for this type of surgery). One of the things it called for was:

"You will need to purchase a Fleet's Phospho-Soda Prep Kit Number II. We will give you a prescription to purchase this."

I didn't get a prescription for this from my doctor. Also, I've been unable to find this product online. Although I've been able to find a lot of information about lawsuits against Fleet enemas for kidney damage (for the love! like i'm not nervous enough already!). The one place I did find it seemed like a medical supply company and it was sold out.

I'm now wondering if this information on the website of my doc is outdated. Clearly I have to call them tomorrow for clarification, however I'm wondering if any of you were asked to use Fleet products, etc. Thanks

Re: Bowel Prep with Fleet?

I have been using Fleet enemas occasionally for years and have never had a problem. I've also used that bowel prep kit - just make sure you stay close to a bathroom after using that one if you find it!

Re: Bowel Prep with Fleet?

I've done bowel preps with Phospho-Soda but used generic. I've also had to do prep's followed by Fleet enemas. Maybe what your doctors website is referring to is a total kit. You may not be able to find it because it requires a prescription. I would call and check with the office. There are many ways to do a bowel prep and it seems as if each doctor has their own preferences. The end results are all the same. Good luck
