I think they are trying to kill me
On 9/13/13 I had a regular vaginal hysterectomy keeping my ovaries removing the uterus and cervix. Immediately after surgery I had extreme bloating and distention of my abdomen and extreme pain. My hemoglobin went down to 5.2 and I was transfused and discharged home. I arrived home and was in the worst pain I have ever experienced. The pain meds were not making a dent. I began bleeding profusely out of my vagina so bad that it soaked through my clothing onto the mattress (called dr and told this was normal) Went to ER. Hence, two ER visits one with catscan showing a buildup of blood and gas (doctor said it was normal and I was constipated). I never had a fever. Second ER visit I was again transfused. The hospital where I had the surgery was out of state so my local ER refused to hospitalize me stating that I would need to go back to Nevada. I had an appointment two days later so I just waited in agony. I went to see the doctor who did the surgery and was in extreme pain. I looked around 9 months pregnant. She hospitalized me that day and then went on vacation for two weeks. During her vacation I was found to have e-coli infection throughout my body. I spend 2 1/2 weeks in intensive care with four abscesses infected with ecoli. I had four drains placed in my abdomen. I was released with two drains and went home on home health with IV antibiotics and oral antibiotics for 6 weeks. In the meantime I dropped from 110.lbs to around 85lbs. It has been an absolute nightmare. I have been off of the antibiotics since the first of November and things seemed to improve although I never was 100% and always had some pain but tolerable. Then last Friday I began having increased bloating, gas and pain in my abdomen which reminded me of how the pain was before. I called my local PCP who called me in two scripts for antibiotics. I saw her the next day and she basically said I was having "phantom pain" but she did send me for a Catscan which showed a 6cm abscess. I followed up with the surgeon who did the surgery and she poo poo'd it away and wanted me to wait two weeks and come back. I went a little nuts at that time. I ended up being hospitalized and the abscess was drained. I was released the next day. After all of this I decided to get a second opinion and I am still waiting to hear back as it was only done this Monday. Does this sound remotely familiar to anyone? Any advice on what might be wrong with me? The pain is so bad in my stomach that it is debilitating. I suspected maybe an ulcer due to the infection but the new doctor feels that this is all related to the hysterectomy and we need to get to the bottom of why this is happening. He stated my bowels are inflamed from small bowel all the way to the rectum. Now I am beginning to wonder if it may have something to do with the vaginal cuff? My vaginal cuff did stretch the stitches when I had the infection because I had a huge hemotoma infected with e-coli trying to get out. Any ideas anyone? This is ruining my life.

Re: I think they are trying to kill me
Oh my goodness!! I am so sorry you are having such a mess!!! We both had our work done about the same time. I am so glad you are getting another opinion...you badly need it. I think your regular Dr. has compensated your health by their "**-hum" attitude!! It is a disgrace to medicine!!! E-Coli lives in the bowel at all times, and, it makes me wonder if you had a small leak in the bowel (possibly a small diverticulum ruptured and then sealed)...I only mention this because I have a friend who had an similar experience....She, like you was very ill, but, fortunately doing very well now. God Bless you Honey....I am so sorry, this is so terrible for you....I will remember you in my prayers. "Hugs"

Re: I think they are trying to kill me
Wow!!! You have been through the wringer...... I can't offer any insite only that it makes me wonder if maybe your bowel was nicked and that is how you ended up with the E. coli infection, possibly why buildup of blood and gas showed on CT...... Whatever is happening is NOT good and a 2nd an even 3rd opinion would be warranted!! We sometimes place all of our faith in this one surgeon, only to forget that they are human and make mistakes, some have set notions on things that differ substantially from what other surgeons think, iv had 2nd opinions before and what 1 surgeon swore as gospel the other surgeon laughed at and had a whole different opinion..... So who is right?? I say YOU are, it's your body and your right to seek answers and clarification and justification for what you have been through, please be your own advocate and don't stop pushing until you have the right answers for you, you know your own body better then any human surgeon!!! I hope your health picks up soon and that this is just a blip in what will become a happy healthy life for you and yours, please keep us posted!! If only so that others going through what you are find some answers or reassurance!! Many hugs xx

Re: I think they are trying to kill me
I would suggest eating Chobani yogurt 2 x a day. With all of the anitbiotics you have had, I am sure the good bacteria in your body is probably gone. You have to get it back into your body. I would also eat alot of food that helps to kill off bad bacteria, like garlic, sauerkraut, yogurt, broccoli and coconut oil. You can use coconut oil for cooking or baking, or on toast. the doctors do their part with the meds and tests and surgery, you have to do your part in getting rid of that nasty e coli!!!!!! (some e coli is not harmful, other strains are harmful) Best of luck and keep us posted!

(((((((((Hugs)))))))))), it does sound as if you may have had a nicked bowel, that allowed fecal matter to enter your abdomen. It could have been such a small nick, that it wasn't even seen. I hope you get answers and resolution quickly!!!

Re: I think they are trying to kill me
Thanks for your replies. Am I missing something medically that I should be looking into? My abdomen is still distended but the pain has eased up. I'm not taking any pain meds because I don't want to make the bowels any more iritated. I am taking a probiotic, multivitamin and extra vitamin c. I still suspect something is wrong. Hopefully I hear from the new Dr tomorrow.
