Jeckyll and Hyde Doctor - Now I am really confused
I have never vented yet but I need to take my turn tonight. My story began in July with my family doctor finding a "softball" sized fibroid. In August, ultrasound confirmed an intramural fibroid halfway between softball and football sized. Referred to ob/gyn. Waited 3 1/2 months for appt. Saw gyn on Nov 12th. Very nice, good listener. He did an endometrial biopsy strictly as a precaution. Told me to book the earliest appt to get results and make decisions about surgery. The earliest appt available was for Jan 2nd - today.
This morning while sitting in his office in the hospital, I could see him across the hall rolling back and forth on a computer chair eating donuts and drinking coffee laughing with two other doctors and some nurses. He could see me the whole time and finally walked across the hall 25 minutes later than my scheduled appt time. He did not say hello, just grabbed my file, pushed a piece of paper across the desk and said "Well there's no cancer, so what do you want to do?" I asked what he would recommend and he said "Oh no. I know this game. You aren't going to make me say. I could recommend you have a TAH leaving cervix and ovaries and then in 5 years if you got ovarian cancer you'd come back in here questioning why I didn't remove your ovaries 5 years ago!" I asked several more questions. Got one word answers and the comment "Well, someone certainly has found all the hysterectomy lady websites haven't you?"
I was so shocked. I wanted to ask if someone had recently sued him and he was taking it out on me. But instead I said I would be making my decision with my family doctor's advice. I left, drove straight to my family doctor's office and booked an appt for next week to talk. I am now sure I'll go back to the end of waiting list if I do decide to have surgery. Frankly, today I thought I would just be getting the date. Sorry girls. Thanks for listening

Jeckyll and Hyde Doctor - Now I am really confused
Hi Beth,
Good grief! Your Doctor doesn't sound like a very nice guy.
Is there any chance you can get referred to another OBGYN? It might be worth the wait.

((((((hugs))))))
I'm so sorry to hear about your doctor. Good thing you found this out now. I would definately seek out another doctor!!! Keep trying. I understand how frustrating this is. But I think you did the right thing & should definately speak with your family physician & find a doc who cares about exactly how you feel!!!

Oh (((Beth))), what a horrible experience you had. I'm with the others who said that finding a different doc might be worth your wait. This one certainly doesn't sound like a keeper.

I'm really glad that you made an apt with your family DR. I would ask him if there is another gyn he can refer you to, and tell him why.
Best wishes.

Jeckyll and Hyde Doctor - Now I am really confused
I am so sorry that your doctor seems like a butt. I would think that maybe it is time to go and get another doctor. Is that an option for you??
I dont think I could trust that man to do surgery on me that is this important.
Good luck to you... I hope the nice doctor comes back and stays.

Thanks
Thank you all for replying. Just what I needed, support for what my dh and I had thought. Bye bye doc. It's like the L'Oreal commercial. I'll get a new doc because "I'm worth it!"

Sounds like it's worth a letter
That guy deserves to be reported. If you have it in you to do it, you can write a letter to the College of Physicians and Surgeons. He will be required to reply in writing. To them. You might not ever hear anything else, but at least you'll know the situation was addressed.
There's so much in life I just don't understand.

Jeckyll and Hyde Doctor - Now I am really confused
Beth
I am so sorry that you had to be the brunt of this mans miserable day. You certainly did not deserve that kind of treatment.
I know how you must be feeling about another long wait for referrals testing and finally the date, but I think that it is worth your time. I would be afraid to go under the advise of a man who was so labile.
I think that you and ;your husband have made a very wise decision. I really hope that your doctor puts you in touch with someone that treats you the way you deserve to be treated. Like a princess.
What a strong person you are to take a step back and wonder is this the person I want to care for me. Please take care and let us know how things go for you. My prayers and best wishes are with you.

Jeckyll and Hyde Doctor - Now I am really confused
Poor Beth. I completely understand. Because of my cervical cancer, I required a gyn oncologist, and the only one who was both in my area and covered by my insurance was not someone I was remotely comfortable with. I was stuck, and now, over six weeks later, I still can't stand him, I think he's callous and a wee bit bonkers. (Imagine the Osbourne family with a medical practice and without the lanugage, and you'll get some idea of how disorganized the entire staff at his office is.)
I sincerely hope you're able to find a doctor you are comfortable with. I know from experience it makes all the difference in the world. However, even if you can't, I'm living proof that even a doctor you dispise can be capable of doing what needs to be done.
Good luck.
