house cleaning and help?

So how is everyone else dealing w/this? I'm 4 1/2 weeks post-op from sah. Husband has been great w/helping w/keeping up with the house, but it's not exactly all being done. I don't want to complain, he's trying - and I tried to do some today and I'm hurting. I feel guilty that I can't get it done by myself at this point, kind of feel like I'm being a slug, but my body is just not healed enough I guess. We are toying with the idea of having a cleaning company come in "one time" so that it will help with how overwhelmed I am feeling, wondering how I will be able to get it all done when I can get back and going. Not my lifestyle by any means. How have others coped with this? No family or close enough friends to help out with this. thanks. katie

house cleaning and help?

If you can afford a cleaning crew, I would do it. You may feel better if things are clean. You need to remember that no one will do it perfectly. My Mom had a cleaning crew for a while and stopped because it wasn't up to her standards.

Good Luck

kcp5:
By all means, hire someone to come and vacuum at least. I love to clean my own house and would never consider having someone come in. But I did ONE time during my recovery. She was here two hours and vacuumed the whole time. It was worth every penny. I will never look at vacuuming the same again. I am so happy to be able to do it.

I run a cleaning business and must say, that all of my clients rave about having it all done for them. Makes them not worry so much about the "little things". If it makes you not freak, then I'd say why not? It's really not as expensive as one would think.

Do It!!

I had a cleaning lady (team of 2 actually) come and clean my house, and it was the best thing I've ever done! I don't know about you - but I could not rest easy when my house was the pits. If there is ever a time for having someone else do the work - it's now. In fact, I've decided to have them come for at least 2-3 more months... how's that for treating yourself like a princess?

house cleaning and help?

i had surgery january 25th. i have a cleaning woman once a week. i have no illusions about the signifigance of help. i think nothing is better spent that help during this time. you have one opportunity to heal ( i had pelvic surgery 25 years ago and know the recovery period quite well) if you can solve a problem with money, it isnt a problem...ny father always said...and how right he was....but if you think housework is worth sacrificing your one shot, think again. i think a service is fine, but find someone to wash your linens and towels as well as your toilet and floor....it is just good medicine~for mental and most importantly physical health. self care is the right thing to give yourself....good luck....

house cleaning and help?

Thanks for all the input, advice and thoughts. Having someone "wait on me" isn't me at all - it's hard after being wife/mom for over 20 years to "give in." It is also hard for others not going through this to understand that even though physically I look ok from the outside, I still feel sore by my incision daily and more so on days that I "push it" and then I start thinking maybe it's me and I'll really be okay if i keep pushing it and I just feel crazy. I don't know. This is just such a strange time for me. It's a lot harder recovery than my c-sections 21 and 22 years ago and I'm tired (mostly of hearing this from my mother-in-law) reminding me that I'm older and that's why it's harder to heal - I don't think that is the only reason why it's harder, I think it was a much more involved surgery. Thanks again for all the support - it really really really is appreciated.

house cleaning and help?

i grew up in a family that never thought that having an immaculate home was an attribute...rather my mother's mottos were "do it now" (referring to interesting trips and excursions) and more significantly "you dont see much of the world doing housework" i am thankful beyond words. as a 56 year old i am not in any way interested in depleting the quality of my life, and i think that caring for me is the very best way to be there for the people i love....i wish strength...and a cleaning person who wants the work that you shouldnt be doing!

btw a caesarian section as young mother is pretty much an incision to pop out the baby. at 56 i had 4 hours of surgerical action in my pelvis, plus anesthesia and retraction....sounds like you did as well.......so who really cares what anyone else thinks,,,,why would you think this is like athletic training....this is self care for a full recovery....
