I am 40 years old scheduled for TAH end of Aug. Will try to save one ovary if possible, feel I'm to young to start menopause. My decision to have cervix removed or not, is it the norm to have it removed?

I'm not sure what's normal. I had a TAH on 7/3/07 and my cervix was removed because of an abnormal pap and I kept both ovaries.

wow- thats a new one- my doc didn't tell me about a choice to have the cervix removed. I am scheduled for a TAH on Sept 20. The cervix was never mentioned, I just assumed it had to go because it was connected to the uterus. I also hope to keep at least one overy- I am 44 and also feel to young to start menopause right now. I have always had normal paps. But I am thinking, as long as it doesn't do anything to my sex life, that I will want to have the cervix out too- why not? Get rid of the cervical cancer risk, never have to have a pap done again- right? Why keep it? What would be the benefits?

leaning twords cervix out

thanks for your reply although my doc did say it was my decision to have cervix removed or not she did reccomend it. I am scheduled to have it removed and will probably leave it that way. I do have a large fibroid on the back side of uterus and endo of the right ovary as well as uterus. My worst pain however is usually on the left. She couldn't find left ovary on last ultrasound not sure whats going on there but hope to keep that one so I don't go into menopause already battling some recent bouts of depression and anxiety
