Ok, how long does this actually take..really?

Hi ladies,
I'm seeing that a lot of you have/did wait for, what seems like, a long time to have your hysterectomy. How long did it take from the time you found out you needed one, to the time you actually had yours? I know there are tests to be performed and insurance to be cleared etc. When I asked my doctor's nurse about my doctor's surgery schedule, she said that the doctor usually schedules major surgery (like mine, TAH to remove a cantaloupe sized fibroid) 6 to 8 weeks out. I thought that was excessive and said to myself, "what can possibly take that long"??? Any help you might offer will be greatly appreciated. By the way, I've already had a pap, blood work, untrasound, EMB, and MRI. Seems to me, the "time consumers" are already in the bag. What am I missing?

Re: Ok, how long does this actually take..really?

My wait was only because of my work load. My boss absolutely begged me to put off my surgery a month so that I would be here through our work's fiscal year end. She's such a good boss that I agreed to it, otherwise I probably would have had the surgery within a few weeks of making the decision.

Good luck to you! My trip to the castle is scheduled 7/13/10.

Who knows what else they will find when she gets in there!

Re: Ok, how long does this actually take..really?

I found out in March and just had it last week, I was told it had to do with operation booking times as well as it's holiday season so they had to work around peoples holidays. It seemed like forever but really it wasn't

It took me 4 weeks. I am not sure if it made a difference I had mine done by a gyn/onc. He does surgeries on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Re: Ok, how long does this actually take..really?

My doctor scheduled my ultrasound in Jan. because I was experiencing problems. I found out that day about my fibroids. She was also scheduled to do a biopsy on that day. The ultrasound techician informed me of my fibroids. Then I went in to see the doctor and told the nurse that I did not feel up to the biopsy on that day. Doctor came in and asked me what I wanted to do. She recommended TAH with ovaries removed. She went and got her surgery calendar, and we discussed a date. She did not want me to wait. I wanted to wait. First I scheduled it for March, then I changed it to April. I could have had it within the next week or two. I made that decision.
