to have hyst or not

Hi!
New to the site, spent most of the afternoon here.
I too have fibroids and cysts on my left ovary.
I have been offered 2 options (ablation, which I don't seem to find is the answer for fibroid or hysterectomy) by my GYN. She wants me to talk to my GP before I make a decision when I go back to her on 12/2. I go to my GP this Wednesday.
My biggest concern at the moment is the fact that I have diabetes, diagnosed in March. I am leaning toward hysterectomy, but have not seen anything relating to diabetes complications or not and hysterectomy. I am healthy otherwise and go to gym 3 times a week and run "gone with the wind" staircase at least 8 x daily at work. Yes, I am overweight, but have lost 60+ lbs this year so far.
Can anyone that has diabetes and a hysterectomy share experience with me?
Thanks,
Nora

Diabetes, fibroids & ovarian cysts

Nora,
I am a diabetic and have been for several years. I am insulin dependent by using the insulin pump. I am scheduled for a TAH on 11/29. I had to get my diabetic doctors okay first, he said since I am under control and my AC1 is down, there is no greater risk than normal with infection but there is still thast risk but it can be taken care of with drugs. I had an abaltion done a little over 3 years ago, it worked for about 9 mths or so. now I am back to bleeding, major pelvic pain, just uncomfortable. Had an ultasound done, they couldn't find my uterus, it is flipped backwards and has a large (forgot the size he said) polyp in it. I Prior to the abaltion, I was bleeding very heavy for long periods of time, and had already had an ovarian cyst removed. I'd lean towards the hysterectomy if I were you. Talk to your doctor, he or she and your heart will know what is best for you.

Good luck .......

Diabetes, fibroids & ovarian cysts

Lesa...

Thank you for replying to message. My prayers go with you on your upcoming surgery.
I am on oral meds at this time for the diabetes.
My husband said one surgery should be enough for anyone and he is for hyster.
I am leaning more toward this decision, but have to admit am truly terrified.
I do want to see Wed what AC1 is, knowing that Oct. was not exactly the healthiest, food choice wise, I have had.
Good Luck!:confuse:

Diabetes, fibroids & ovarian cysts

Nora,

I am also diabetic and have fibroids. Due to the fibroids and heavy bleeding I am also anemic. My last hemoglobin reading on 11/11/04 was only 7.5. I am scheduled to have a tvh after Christmas (don't have a definate date yet).

I never thought that there might be complications because of my diabetes. My last A1C was 5.6 - but my Dr. said that it was low because of my anemia.

I hope your post gets lots of responses because I am interested also.

Diabetes, fibroids & ovarian cysts

I am diabetic and have been for almost 19 years and scheduled for a TAH on November 29th. Since you are a new diabetic you shouldn't have to worry about complications like someone who has had the disease as long as I have.
I have put off having this surgery for quite a long time, but decided it was better to do it now than to wait any longer (spotting for several years). I had a D & C several years ago but it didn't take care of the bleeding. I am not anemic so that isn't a problem.
All I can say is I will let you know after the 29th how things go.
