Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Aug 21, 2016

Hey y'all!! I'm Lia from SC and my surgery is Wednesday at 11:30 EST. I am having a total hysterectomy...leaving my right ovary, maybe. I don't know all the cool abbreviations yet...lol. I have Stage 4 endo that has bound my intestines all up, so in addition to hysterectomy Inm having adhesions removed and a hernia repair. I'm not really anxious...I trust my GYN completely.

My main concern is the surgeon repairing my intestines. During my pre-op visit he was standoffish and ahort...and I didn't feel comfortable with him at all. I've waited 8 years with endo to have this surgery...and I hate not being totally comfortable with those rooting in my belly.

Has anyone else had a combo surgery like mine? What was your comfort level going in??

Hi All, I have my surgery tomorrow. Going in at 7.30. I'm having a laparoscopic Hysterectomy but leaving my ovaries and cervix, hopefully. Nerves are pretty bad today. I'm just trying to get so organised. I want to give myself the best chance of a good recovery as I can. Good luck to everyone else having surgery this week x

Surgery 8/23

Hello. I'm scheduled for abdominal surgery this Tues due to fibroids. I'm 45 years old and completely fine with the decision. I'm keeping my ovaries. However, I'm still deciding whether to keep my cervix or not. I've had two dr tell me it serves no purpose keeping it. My fear is if removing it will cause a loss of sensation during sex. I currently have amazing internal orgasims and I'm afraid im going to lose that. My dr assured me that that type of orgasims comes from the "g spot" and has nothing to do with the cervix. Any advice from fellow friends would be greatly appreciated. Each day I get a bit more anxious and scared. I do have a fear of being knocked out. I've never had any type of surgery (other than an ablation ) so this will be my first. I'm also worried about recovery. I've never been one to sit still and take it easy. I'm very active and enjoy exercising and running. The thought of having to lay around and "do nothing " is maddening to me. My dr has told me that after a couple weeks when I'm feeling better I have to be very careful not to give in to wanting to be active. She said the insides need a long time to heal and i need to remind myself of that. Best wishes to everyone this week and thanks for letting me vent!

Hi I'm having laporascopic hysterectomy/oopherectomy on Tues as part of my treatment for breast cancer. My biggest worry is about recovery and how I will take care of my 4 year old. I had help for 3 weeks after my mastectomy and throughout chemo but I feel bad asking for more help with this surgery and another surgery I have next month. I've been in chemical menopause since chemo so I'm hoping surgical menopause will be the same?

Good morning!! It's bowel prep day for me. Surgery in the morning! I'm 43 & having DaVinci removal of uterus, tubes, cervix, keeping ovaries. I'm also having TVT placed to reinforce my urethra due to stress incontinence. Not looking forward to any thing except never having a period again!!!! My hysterectomy is due to ESSURE side effects. I had it placed in 2009 & the last 2 years have been rough. I just realized a few months ago that it was the ESSURE causing my issues. So, here we go!!! Good luck & prayers to everyone!!

Hi!
I am having a TLH on 8/22/16 due to cancer concerns.
2009 bilateral mastectomy
Post menopausal 19 months!!! Then had a period.
Ultrasound shows complex cysts on right ovary & irregular and thick uterine lining, along with a couple of fibroids that are non bothersome. Concerns are early stage cancer.
Keeping busy today!
Dr said she will give me a binder if I want. Are others using binders if so how and why?
Prayimg for us all!

I agree, your cervix is nowhere near your g-spot & your orgasms shouldn't be affected. From what I've read, sex is even better with a vaginal cuff. I'm having mine removed. Plus, no worries about cervical cancer. My first surgery with full anesthesia was last December. This will be my second. It doesn't get easier even though I know I won't remember anything & it really is a piece of cake. You go to sleep, you wake up & it's over. As far as sitting around, your energy will be zapped from healing so you won't have any problems resting. Just enjoy! Let your body heal & you will be better than new !!
