Pain in my side 5 days post hysterectomy

Hi there. I'm wondering if I should call my doctor or if other sisters had this same pain. I had my surgery last Tuesday and I've had this pain in my right side, the same side that my benign mass was (and the ovary they removed). I've had my appendix removed so I know it isn't that...and it isn't a really sharp pain, just more than a pronounced ache. I have it constantly, but I really feel it when I'm going to the bathroom when I have to coax my bladder to empty or when I'm going number 2. I wondered if it was from the vaginal sutures or if I just have a big stool that is hanging out in there. I had diarrhea yesterday, so I doubt it's the big stool theory, lol. And I feel kinda embarrassed talking stool period, so I will stop. But it does feel like it is intestinal pain and not bladder associated. Maybe I'm still swollen down there and any movement causes the pain. IDK, but I don't wanna be one of those patients that call the doctor for every little thing. One more question, is 99.2F considered a fever?

Re: Pain in my side

It could be gas pain. I had my hysterectomy on march 24 and still have intestinal gas every single day. It can be quite painful, keep gas-X on hand.

You still might want to call the Dr. They expect questions like this and if something is amiss it's better they are aware sooner than later.

Re: Pain in my side

I have had a constant pain on my right side from the moment I opened my eyes after surgery. It has never gone away. It's a dull ache and a shooting pain. It has nothing to do with gas or bowels movements. I had a vaginal removal and have no external stiches. Walking makes it worse. I am 2 weeks post op

Hi, 99 is a low grade fever. Its common after surgery. Stay well hydrated, dont be bundled up as that holds a temp in. Just watch, if it goes higher then call your Dr..

You are so early in recovery, aches, paIns will come & go...That sounds like its your colon...The GI system is different post op. Again, water, water, some walking a couple times a day. Eat healthy, lite meals & snacks. Fiber-apples, prunes, salads, nuts, pumpkin seeds. Yogurt, kefir-probiotics. I like smoothie w spinach, banana, bluberries, flax seeds, soy milk, yogurt..It may take your GI system weeks to bounce back. Then again, hormones affect digestion & it may just be the new normal.

Your colon comes off the end of your small intestine in the area of your right hip, right where your appendix used to be, then travels up to your waist before it comes across your body. After a hysterectomy, it rearranges itself to fill the space left by your uterus, which can cause stuff to become stuck in this area. Also, the primary function of the appendix is to serve as a storehouse for your intestinal bacteria, so taking probiotics, as LailaStar suggested, can definitely help to take over this important function. In addition to regular walks, what I always recommend to get things back to normal is to supplement the diet with magnesium, which promotes proper bowel function; food sources include leafy greens, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate. Having something warm can also help; top picks from myself and other sisters include warmed-up prune juice, peppermint tea, fennel seeds steeped in hot water, and a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. Another top tip is to squat on the toilet right after a meal; this stimulates the gastro-colic reflex, in which the stomach tells the brain that it's full, then the brain tells the colon to empty its contents, to make room for the new stuff coming in, and the squat position properly aligns the rectum, so the poop can pass through more smoothly. Here's hoping you'll be back to 💩 soon, and rid of this pain!
