TVH w/ A&P repair 6/15 - Vacation 7/28
Am I going to be up to this? It is about a 4 hour car ride away. Granted this is with stops, because of small children. And in a very comfy mini-van. If need be I can sit on my donut pillow to keep the pressure off my tender parts.
I just hope it won't be too uncomfortable. Vacation is at a lake, in a very comfy cabin. Most physical thing I'll be doing is playing with the kids. Can't canccel because we are going with another family and it is already paid in full. Can't put surgery off, because I already have a signed ontract to do a wedding cake in August ( I do custom designed cakes), and my 20th reunion is in September. There is far too much on my plate.
What do you all think?

TVH w/ A&P repair 6/15 - Vacation 7/28
Jennifer...
Sounds like you have a lot going on! Each one of us is different. A vacation sounds nice, and you might be up to it. At six weeks, I might have been up to a trip...but only a very relaxing one.
With all you have planned, I'm worried that you are not putting yourself first with this surgery. This is big stuff, and with all these expectations, you have lots of pressure to "recover on schedule". You may be fine, but you may be really wiped. No way to predict!
Please be sure you put your recovery first before anything else, and allow yourself the time to heal. We just get one chance to heal and we owe it to ourselves! Please take things easy and rest.
I hope things go well for you!!!

I agree with Karen: take time to heal. You will need lots of time off your feet.
I had a TVH in December. I had trouble remaining in a sitting position for long periods of time for about 11 weeks. I had to have my feet up and had to be able to move around.
With a TVH we do not have to deal with the external incision, but we do have all the same internal stitches. Sitting puts a lot of pressure on those stitches.
The donut pillow sounds like a good idea. I would also take a lot of "stretch" breaks on the way there, to relieve the cramped muscles. Once you get there, be sure to save a lot of time for resting, feet up.
Don't set unatainable goals for yourself. Initial recovery time for a TVH is 6 to 8 weeks, but full recovery is 6 to 12 months. Give yourself a chance to heal.
Best of luck.

Your vacation should be okay if you are careful.
My LAVH/BSO w/ A&P repair was 6 weeks ago and I'm still having quite a bit of discomfort after sitting for long periods. The stitches from A&P repair are pretty extensive.
Your idea for frequent stops should help. Reclining in the van would be good, too. I'm assuming that you will be a passenger. (My doc says no to driving long distances -- puts stress on the stitches.) You might find a fluffy feather pillow more comfortable to sit on than a donut. The donut seems to add to the pressure. Another pillow between your tummy and the seat belt would help you to be comfortable.
Once you're there, please rest a lot with your feet up -- remember, sitting is an activity. Good luck with your surgery and your vacation.
