Hysterectomy after UAE

I've been dealing with fibroids for many years. I've done lupron and I had a uterine artery embolization in 2008. I initially saw results but now they are growing again. My uterus is now the size of a 5 month preg. The 2 largest fibroids are grapefruit size and orange size. I have no pain, no excessive bleeding. But do have lots of pressure, constipation, frequent urination, back pain. My doctor is planning to remove just my uterus and hopes to do it laproscopically. Has anyone had a hyster after uae, and if so, are there questions I should be asking my doc when I meet with her next week? Has anyone had a successful laproscopic hyster with a large uterus and large fibroids? Thanks for your stories and your help.

Re: Hysterectomy after UAE

I had a UAE in 2008. At that time I had only one fibroid, long and heavy bleeding, cramps and pain all the time. The UAE helped my systems but I don't think it helped with shrinking the Fibroid.
This past April I had a hyster. I had too many fibroids to count and some as big as yours. The dr took uterus, cervix and 1 F. Tube. He took the 1 F tube due to the position of my fibroids. they were on the inside and outside of my uterus. I looked about 20 weeks pregnant.
My dr was great and very experienced with robotic surgery. I
had very " stuburn" fibroids! it started as lap. with 5 small cuts across my stomach. They are high up between my ribs and belly button. They are that high due to position of fibroids.
My surgery lasted almost 5 hours and he did not want to keep me out longer so he made a very low 2 inch abdominal cut.
I stayed overnight in the hospital and since I got home I only took Motrin for the soreness I felt.
Ask your dr about his experience with fibroids since they use a special tool to slice them to remove them.
