Spotting - 3 1/2 Weeks Post-Op

I had LSH 1/30/09. This is the normal time of the month I would have started bleeding; today I've noticed pink discharge. I have had cramping for three days now, more in the evening when I get home from work.

Is this anything to worry about? I still have my cervix and ovaries, so I expect that I will go through cycles as normal without the "shed,"... But I wasn't totally expecting to see any discharge, especially when I didn't have any discharge post-op.

Anyone else feel like you've become totally hypochondriacal since your surgery? I usually keep my freak-outs to myself so my dh won't see what a nutcase I've become!

I'm thankful for my hystersisters who post here, too, because I realize I'm experiencing a whole slew of "normal" things... I guess it takes some getting used to our "new" bodies.

A couple things could be happening in your case. You could still be experiencing some healing issues that are causing the spotting. As we increase our activities levels we do sometimes see an increase in some spotting and bleeding. If it is bright red and fills a pad an hour, head to ER.

The other thing that could be occurring for you is a mini period. As the cervix is not a separate organ but rather the neck of the uterus, there is no "dotted line" to tell a doctor where to make the cut when leaving the cervix. Thus, some endometrial lining can be left that will react and shed to your hormones since you also retained your ovaries. Many women find the mini periods do taper off with time. Others find they are so "mini" that they are not an issue. Others do seek additional treatment from their doctors--cauterizing the cervix can help stem the bleeding or if there are major issues, a trachelectomy might need to be done.

If you have any concerns, do talk to your doctor! S
